With such a massive selection at Mecca, it is often so hard to pick between products. Especially when a favourite brand has two hot fire foundations that both sound like winners.  I’ve done the legwork for you and compared Naked Skin and All-Nighter so you can decide which is best for your cute little mug.

Both foundations retail for $65. They are both housed in a tall bottle with a pump style of delivery. Each contains 30ml of product but offer very different things.

Naked Skin Foundation

Fusing cutting-edge technology with high-performance pigment, this ultra-definition liquid foundation delivers a perfected look and weightless feel to the skin.

Naked skin both feels and looks oh-so-natural on the skin. The coverage is medium, but really easily sheered out or built up. I love how I can even out my skin tone with this foundation, but my freckles and skin can still shine through. The finish is a demi-matte, which gives the skin beautiful glow.  It lasts well, but my mug starts to get a little shiny after a couple of hours, and by the end of the day the foundation does start to break up on my face.

I think this would be a great everyday foundation for most skin types. While the longevity isn’t super incredible for oily gals, it gives my skin such a beautiful finish, that can be blotted/powdered when the shine is getting a bit too much. It doesn’t catch on dry bits and has enough hydration that dry skin babes would enjoy this all over their face too.

Naked Skin (excuse the claw)

All Nighter Foundation

Full coverage flawless in a flash! Waterproof, oil-free, matte and ultra long-wearing, this liquid formulation envelops your complexion in perfection for a completely airbrushed finish.

This shit is legit. When they say full coverage they ain’t lyin’. It completely evens out your skin tone and covers blemishes, discoloration, and freckles. All Nighter lives up to its name by lasting all day, and all damn night.  As you’d expect with such longevity, it controls oil like no other. She’s a doozy! But with that oil control comes a little bit of texture and sinking into fine lines.
The biggest set back with this high-coverage beauty is the level of oxidisation. I’d say it dries down at least a whole shade darker. So keep that in mind when choosing your shade.
If you suffer from oily skin that requires some hardcore coverage, this is going to be your saviour. Personally, I really need to amp up the bronzer and highlight when wearing this, to give my face a little dimension, but other than that I really like it for those long sweaty summer days and steamy nights. But, be sure to steer clear if you have even the slightest bit of dry or flaky skin. This bad boy will grab onto those flakes and not let go. It will highlight even the slightest bit of texture.

The Results

IMG_1060

Overall, it is a little difficult for me to see a clear winner. Both are used for very different purposes. All-Nighter cannot be beaten when it comes to long-lasting oil control. On the other hand, Naked Skin is weightless and a little more natural looking. I reach for Naked Skin a little bit more, but only because it is more of a daily wear foundation for me. But All Nighter is my go-to for something like a day at the races, or a wedding.

Sorry guys, it’s a stalemate for me.  But I am sure you can decide which is the right choice for you and your needs.

What are your thoughts?

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat Review

You probably won’t believe me when I say I don’t actually wear a lot of metallic or shimmery eyeshadows. As much as I love them, and believe me I do, my go-to are mattes.  And scorched, deliciously rich warm toned mattes, now that is what my dreams are made of. I know the market is over-saturated with warm tones, and people may be beginning to tire of the same concept over and over. But there are no complaints here. Oranges, peaches and reds really play up my blue eyes and I am not even close to getting bored of these hot fire shades.

IMG_3972

The Naked Heat palette caught my eye as soon as it was released and boy did it deliver. Creamy, pigmented mattes that translate on the eye and simply stunning shimmers that deliver the most beautiful looks. To this day it is one of my favourite palettes. But, having said that the shimmers just don’t get the love that they deserve from me and because my life is a little unpredictable at the moment, I find myself being drawn to more user friendly, practical and purse sized products.

Enter the Naked Petite Heat palette –  cue angelic singing.

This little pocket rocket is seriously the answer to my prayers. It boasts 6 new shades in one palm-sized little palette. But the question is, does it live up to the hype? Are the shades and formula up to the usual Urban Decay high standard? Let’s see.

IMG_3907

The packaging is a hard sturdy plastic with a clip closure. The front is emblazoned with flames and roses. The pan sizes are quite generous for the size of the overall product (They’re actually the same size as the naked palettes) and the mirror is really decent. tick, tick, tick.

Now, on to the important bits. There are 5 complete matte shades and one demi-matte highlight, which I think is a really clever inclusion in the palette. As expected the Naked Petite Heat is a bevy of warm shades that would compliment any eye colour.

IMG_3974

There is a decent amount of functionality; There are beautiful muted transition shades and rich crease colours. The darkest shade works well to create depth and is great as a liner or to smoke out your look. You may not be able to create a huge range of eye looks, but honestly, what 6 pan matte palette would give you crazy versatility with never-ending looks? Yeah, not many at all.

The formula is gorgeous. These are damn good mattes. They are smooth, buttery, pigmented and not in the slightest bit chalky. They apply really well and blend out even better.  These shadows are really fuss free, you don’t have to work to hard to get your desired effect, plus they have minimal fall out.

IMG_4078

The only partially negative I can mention is that it is quite possible that you may already own similar shades within your collection. I mean, they aren’t ground-breaking colours. But having said that, I think the appeal of the product is its size and having all those complimentary shades right there in your hand, in one tidy little high-quality palette.

Facetune_16-04-2018-11-46-40

These days I am mostly applying my makeup in a rush so this palette is absolutely perfect for me, I cannot fault it. I think this is a great little palette for the beginner, or someone starting out with their warm-toned looks. Or, of course, someone like me, who loves warm-toned mattes and stick to the same kind of looks.

This smoking hot little number drops at Mecca Maxima on May 1st.

Does this tickle your fancy? Will you be adding this to your cart?

Mecca Must Haves

Over the last few months there have been some incredible new releases at Mecca. While I’d love to walk you through every one of my favourite products, I don’t want to be writing a novel.  So,  I thought I’d highlight a few of my current must haves and holy grail products.

Hello beautiful people,

Over the last few months there have been some incredible new releases at Mecca. While I’d love to walk you through every one of my favourite products, I don’t want to be writing a novel.  So,  I thought I’d highlight a few of my current must haves and holy grail products.

Nars

Oh, where to begin? I love Nars, I  really do.  The fabulous PowerMattes* are only new to my collection, but man, they have made an impression. The formula is light, and slightly watery, but packs a pigmented punch. They apply easily – especially thanks to the pointed applicator. They seriously last all day without too much flaking at all. While they are on the pricey side of things, keep in mind there is no need to top ups during the day, so the tube is going to last you about 3 times as long as a regular lipstick.

IMG_6662

Still on Nars, this wouldn’t be a ‘must-haves’ post without the mention of the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer*. I have spoken many times about this pot of magic, and you can find a detailed blog post here. I have been using this concealer almost daily to cover up the effects of sleep deprivation thanks to pregnancy hormones. They are just perfect for daily wear. They are light, blendable, long-wearing with minimal creasing and have no need for a setting powder.  They really are the most perfect, all in one concealer.

IMG_1261

Bare Minerals

To be quite honest, Bare Minerals really wasn’t ever on my radar. There was nothing that really jumped out to me. That was until they released their incredible Gen-Nude collection. Their lip products are such high-quality and measure up against the make-up big wigs. Both the liquid lipstick* and gloss formulas are exceptional, I cannot fault either of them. The more products I use from the brand, the more I fall in love. Don’t be foolish like me and discount them, because there are some absolute gems in the range.

IMG_6530

Hourglass

Hourglass is another one of those brands that I cannot get enough of. Their products are of the highest quality and honestly feel like they contain some sort of magic. All of their powders add the most beautiful glow to the skin and somehow make you look fresh, healthy and airbrushed. Now those are big claims coming out of my mouth, but I wholeheartedly believe it. Their blushes are stunning, they blend like no other. The flush on the cheeks look so natural and glowy.

IMG_2658

The Ambient Lighting Powders are by far my favourite. Basically, I can’t leave the house without a dusting of Dim Light. With my oily skin, I have always been hesitant to dabble in illuminating powders – there is nothing good about looking like a greasy disco ball. But Dim Light is like a facial in a compact. It smoothes, hides imperfections and adds the most healthy looking glow to the complexion – like i said, it is some sort of sorcery.

Mecca Max

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would have heard about the really exciting release of Mecca’s own line MECCA MAX. I have had the chance to trial most of the range, and have definitely discovered some must-have products. Firstly I have to mention the incredible Power Couple Mascara*. From first swipe on the lashes, I fell in love. This mascara lengthens and defines, leaving my eyelashes super fluttery. There is no flaking or smudging in sight. That alone sold me, but this mascara has a nifty little featutre – the dual wand. The smaller brush allows you to really get into the roots to create volume, and accentuate bottom and corner lashes. My new holy grail mascara.

IMG_4744

Mecca MAX have really hit the mark with their lip products. From the gorgeous Pout Pop * lipsticks that are dreamily creamy, to the non-sticky but pigmented Boss Gloss* and the hydrating City Slickers Tinted Oil* , this range cannot be faulted. I have found myself reaching for Mecca Max lip products on the daily, over my usual go-to products. The range is affordable, full of gorgeous colours and just screaming to be a part of your collection.

Dr Dennis Gross

img_2272

I rave almost on a weekly basis about my love for all things  Dr DG. I will tell anyone who will listen how incredible the Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peels* are. Seriously, everyone needs these in their lives. Nothing, and I mean nothing, has improved my skin like these have. The targeted formula of both AHA’s and BHA’s work together to treat almost all skincare concerns. They chemically exfoliate by removing dead skin cells, polishing the skin, treating ageing concerns to reveal smooth, bright and even skin. An absolute must have. You can read more about these clever little pads here and here.

FRANK

Where would a must haves list be without good old trusty Frank. I have loved body scrubs for so damn long. The sensation of buffing and polishing skin just feels a little too good.  Since becoming pregnant, I have loved scrubs even more. I need to ensure my skin is polished and hydrated to prevent stretch marks, so Frank has been joining me in the shower more often than not. Even my partner Kane is quite partial to Frank – Who would have thought?!  Plus that gorgeous coffee scent really kick starts my morning, especially while my caffeine intake is limited. Damn you, growing baby.

IMG_4714

Too Faced

Too Faced have some damn good products. But there is one gem that I have re-purchased, over and over again. The Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is the most beautiful everday bronzer in my collection. Not only does it smell like a chocolate dream, but it is the most perfect contour colour that blends effortlessly. It can be worn quite sheer or built up for an intense Instagram-worthy contour. I always reach for this over my other matte bronzers.

IMG_7176

Lanolips

I recently raved about the Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Treatment* over on the ‘gram. It has been my lip saviour for tail-end of winter. This unique product is not only a suuuuuper hydrating creamy balm but it also works as a natural exfoliate to get rid of those pesky little dry flakes. It adds a glossy sheen to the lips and smells exactly like icy-poles. So really it covers all bases.

IMG_5717

Urban Decay

I would put money on the fact that almost every beauty-enthusiast has had a bottle of Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray in their collections at some point. It is a cult product and for all the right reasons. It truly sets that cake in place for hours on end. It settles down any excess powders, doesn’t add shine, nor does it matte out that beaming glow. If you are after a good quality and effective setting spray, this little bottle is your best bet.

WinkyLux *

IMG_6873

This quirky little brand is just too cute for words. They are known for their kitschy packaging, especially the medication shaped lipsticks.  I personally think their lipsticks are just gorgeous, and are great to throw in the handbag for touch ups throughout the day. I also adore their balms.* Not only do they smell delicious, but they add a kiss of sheen and colour to the lips, while adding a boost of hydration. Plus what other lip balm has a gorgeous dried flower encased in the actual product?

What are your Mecca must-haves? Have you added any more to your wishlist?

April Favourites

Hello!

I took an unintentional blogging break for the month. I was away on holidays and time just seemed to get away from me. But I’m back with a re-energised vigour. So let’s jump head first into my April Favourites.

OtterBox X Swarovski Phone Case*

My phone is basically glued to my right hand, so it’s no question that it occasionally takes a tumble. Previously I would wince, reach down and  pray that my most prised possession was still intact.  Now I don’t have this concern. Not only are Otterbox phone cases the gold standard when it comes to phone protection, but this particular collab makes my little heart sing.  Covered in swarovski crystals, you could say that my phone’s highlight is on point. Usually phone covers that protect like this are big, bulky and frankly, unattractive but this ticks all the boxes.

IMG_4985

Urban Decay Ultimate Pair Lip Kits *

Finally a lip-kit of incredible quality and for a reasonable price. I already adore Urban Decay’s Vice lipstick range, but these little duos are just fabulous. There’s no second guessing about which lip-liner suits best; it’s already perfectly packaged up for you in the one little box.  I just wish there was more of a selection of shades.

IMG_9306 (1)

It Cosmetics Superhero Palette*

I was gifted this palette at the start of the year, but never really got around to playing with it all that much. But I have been using this a whole heap lately. The formula is just something else. Buttery, blendable and super pigmented, these eye-shadows are even enhanced with anti-aging skincare benefits to nourish the eyelid. This palette is so user friendly and provides a good range of versatile shades that would suit almost any skin tone and eye colour. This little baby is landing at Sephora soon, but is limited.

IMG_7924

Revlon Eye Art

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably have seen these little guys featuring in my MOTD images.  They are STUNNING! They are a cream eyeshadow, glitter liner combo that actually works. The formula is simply gorgeous. The creams just glide on, deliver an incredible amount of pigment, all while being super blendable. Although the glitter doesn’t work too well as a liner, it is lovely when tapped on and blended out for a injection of sparkle. Both formula’s don’t stray or fade once dry – BIG BONUS! My oily little eyelids usually don’t agree with cream eyeshadows, but I have been just loving these for a little something extra.

IMG_5792

Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Playpen

Nars Velvet Lip Glides are next level! They combine the best of both worlds, by providing long lasting colour all while given your lips a little loving. It’s well known that liquid lipsticks can be quite harsh on the lips and that normal glossy formulas usually aren’t long lasting.  But these have changed the game. Once applied my lips feel buttery, but not too sticky and pack a pigment punch. After a few hours the glossy finish does diminish, but the formula acts like a kind of stain, which allows that pigment stick around. The shade I have is Playpen which is a pinky nude that is perfect for easy, daily wear. I have heard that the darker shades of this line can be a little patchy.

IMG_9331

Bobbi Brown Havana Brights*

This is heaven, or should I say Havana, in a palette. My goodness! I cannot express to you enough just how gorgeous this little number is. Encased in a fabulous neon coral case, this palette sure is pleasing to the eye. Inside is the most stunning cheek trio including a bronzer, blush and highlight. The shades add a beautiful natural glow to the face and the formula is super blendable and stays true the Bobbi Brown incredibly high standard.  I took this little baby away with me recently and favoured using this as eyeshadow as well.  Such a perfect, versatile little palette.

IMG_7271

That’s it.

Hope you had a fabulous April and you can look forward to a few more blog posts this month.

Take care,

Camille

Let’s talk trash

Hello beautiful people,

Are you ready for another installment of Trash Talk?

IMG_3925 (2)

Urban Decay – All Nighter Setting Spray ($23-49)

This little bottle of magic is a holy grail item to me. I first used this a year or so ago and instantly fell in love. I noticed such a huge difference in the longevity of my foundation and oil control. Any excess powders dissipated and my make-up is set and look fresh as a daisy all day. It is a little on the more expensive side of things, which is why I buy the smaller bottle, but it lasts quite a while.  The All Nighter Setting Spray has already been re-purchased and will be again and again.

Alpha H – Liquid Gold ($ 59.95)

Liquid Gold is a cult product, everyone raves about the miracle results – Firmer skin, smaller pores, reduction in wrinkles and  refined skin texture. I might be shunned from the beauty community for saying this, but I just don’t see it. While I feel like it does make a small difference, I just don’t see these miraculous results the morning after; nothing that is screaming fresh, youthful skin as some people describe. I so desperately want this to work for me as it works for others, but I am not sure whether I can shell out another $60 if I am unsure about it. I really love Go-To Skincare’s exfoliating swipeys, I think that they may be a better option for me. However, I don’t believe I am quite ready to give up on Liquid Gold just yet.

Olaplex – Hair Perfector take home treatment

What a huge miracle in a little bottle. As a blondie with fine and generally dry hair this little guy is a godsend. My hairdresser uses this in my hair colour and then this is the take home treatment to use weekly. As I understand it, Olaplex reconnects and bonds hair fibres which limits damage during and after colouring. It is free from silicones, sulfates, phthalates and cruelty free.  For the last 6 months or so I have been using this at home and in the salon and the results are undeniably good. It is an extra $80 or so on top of your usual salon expenses, but I fully recommend it for blondes, especially if you are trying to go lighter.

Fudge – Clean Blonde Toning Shampoo ($19.95)

This is an old favourite of mine. I have gone through so so so so many of these babies.  Absolutely nothing tones and looks after my hair like this shampoo does.  I have a thing about brassiness in my hair, I would much rather it be an over-toned grayish purple than yellow, and Clean Blonde is the only shampoo that actually makes a difference. The smell is uplifting and the shampoo itself is a dark indigo colour. It doesn’t dry out my fine blonde locks and always removes any yellow tones. It can slightly stain any dry skin on your hands, but I don’t find that a problem. I cannot say enough good things about this product. Now I just need a lifetime supply, haha!

Lush – Cup O’ Coffee Exfoliating Mask ($35.95)

I was so excited for the Australian release of this mask. I love anything coffee, anything scrubby and most products from Lush, so this sounded amazing. Firstly the small was incredible! So energizing and uplifting and exactly what you’d expect. It is perfect for those bleary-eyed monday morning showers. The formula is somewhat creamy speckled with grains of coffee. It feels quite nice on the skin, but I found the grains a little too abrasive on my face. So I use it on my body and very gently on my face.  I have used many coffee scrubs over the years and I wouldn’t say this is a favourite nor is it even in my top 5.  I don’t want to take away from it, because there is nothing overly wrong with it, but I just don’t love it.

IMG_3188 (2)

Catwalk by Tigi – Oatmeal and Honey Hair Mask ($25.95)

Now this is what I call liquid gold. This hair mask is everything. It smells incredibly delicious and leaves my hair so so so soft, healthy, smooth and shiny. It looks beautiful when air-dried, but also is so much better to style after using this. I honestly cannot get over how healthy this makes me hair look and feel.   I tend to use hair masks over regular conditioners because of the hydration factor, and because of this I have come across many duds that just don’t work. Many masks are leave my dry hair greasy, limp and lifeless regardless of how much or how little I use. I have never found one that ticks all the boxes. But boy, does this little tub deliver. My hair is swishy, soft and smells like banana porridge (That’s a good thing). I always have a good hair day when I have conditioned with this mask. Annnnnd I have run out, so bad hair days all round. Now if I could get a lifetime supply of this one too, that’d be great.
