Hello my little beauty babes,

Favourites – it has certainly been a while, but it;s about damn time I updated my readers with a few noteworthy prodz. While I’ve been off birthing a small child and thus needing to care for the wee child, I haven’t had a great deal of time to trial and discover new products, and my needs have changed slightly, but there definitely has been some standouts.

picture of said child, Louie

I have had quite a few people ask what I have been using lately on my skin. Now, not to blow my own trumpet (toot toot), but my skin is probably looking the best it ever has; I don’t know whether pregnancy/ post-partum hormones are to thank, or whether somehow the combination of sleep deprivation and constant lactation is making my skin fresh AF (the latter is incredibly doubtful) but damn, it is looking good. Surprisingly enough, I really haven’t been using much at all. If the wee child allows me time to actually give my skin some loving, I will give my skin a treat with some Kiehls Creamy Avocado Under Eye Cream, and a splash of The Aurae Beauty Boost Serum. Otherwise, shamefully enough, I smear on my face whatever Moo Goo Skin Milk Udder Cream is left on my hands after giving Louie an after bath massage #mumlife.  I have used this moisturiser on my body and hands for almost 10 years, always having a tube in my handbag. But never have I consistently used it on my face. With the high quality and beautiful ingredients in Skin Milk it isn’t surprising that it works so well.  Moo Goo lover for life.

Also, for the mums out there – if you’ve never used Moo Goo before, I would HIGHLY recommend their products for your little person. I could go on and on about the products, but if you head over to their website, you’ll see for yourself why I have had a decade long love-affair with Moo Goo, and why it is the only skincare brand that I would dare use on my little Louie. (Not sponsored in the slightest – while I have received PR gifts from Moo Goo before, I have also spent a small fortune on their milky goodness).

Current skin situation, thanks to Moo Goo and an Ultraceuticals Mandalic Peel. Tired eyes courtesy of Louie.

On the subject of skincare, I also want to mention a favourite experience of the last month, an amazing peel that I received a few weeks ago. I was kindly gifted an Ultraceuticals Mandalic Peel* by Total Face Group in Chatswood. As a relative newbie to the Ultraceuticals range, it was an absolute pleasure to be able to experience a peel first hand. Marguerite, my lovely therapist, talked me through the process, products and active ingredients – which I found ridiculously helpful (I now have a new obsession with Niacinamide) Ultraceuticals is definitely a brand I want to explore a little bit more and I really want to take some time out for myself more regularly and get frequent facials.

I never thought that I’d see the day where I would be reaching for a powder over a liquid foundation, but between rocking a baby to sleep, guzzling your 784th (cold) coffee of the day, cleaning baby vomit off your dress and trying to ignore that nagging voice of anxiety that comes with taking a newborn child out in the world, there isn’t a whole lot of time to doll yourself up in the morning.  So something quick, easy and one-hand friendly is at the top of my list. Enter Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. This stuff is no joke.  With a quick swirl of this on a big fluffy brush, my imperfections are covered, skin tone is evened and I’m looking less and less like a corpse by the minute. The finish is beautiful and natural, it doesn’t transfer when I rub my face all over my delicious smelling baby and it last ALL DAMN DAY.

If you bear with me, I’m going to have a detailed review of these brand-new products published shortly, but I have to mention these bad boys in my current favourites. Becca have recently launched the Bright Eyes Collection consisting of an Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer*, their best-selling and my all time favourite Under Eye Brightening Corrector, and the Under-Eye Brightening Setting Powder*. This three step range works fabulously at smoothing, hydrating, blurring and colour correcting the under-eye area. Pre-baby I had no issues with dark circles, but now I need to spend a little more time concealing and brightening the area. Although the 3 steps may seem time consuming, I promise it is worth it. The end result certainly brightens and covers, and the area doesn’t crease nor does it look cakey or powdery, giving me the most natural finish I’ve seen from a corrector yet. Stay tuned for a product break down and a more in-depth chat about these products soon.

The last thing I want to mention is another product that helps to make me look less corpse like, I see a theme here… MAC recently released the Bold & Bad Lash Mascara* and man, is it good one. I never though I’d be raving about a $42 mascara – especially if you saw my Instagram post about the new Benefit mascara. I honestly believe that drug-store mascaras do the job well for a fraction of the price. Buttttt, I love this and have been reaching for this over all my other mascaras for a month or so now. The formula is on the drier side (which I prefer), but it coats the lashes so damn well. My lashes are lengthened, thickened and even hold a curl like you wouldn’t believe. I find that this formula is easily built up, too. Plus, this clever little number is dual-wanded, so the mini wand is great for lower lashes, getting in tight to the water-line and also combing through the lengths. I promise I wouldn’t tell you about an exy mascara if it wasn’t worth the money.

That’s it, kids.

Until next time,

January Favourites

The first month of 2017 is done and dusted – whoa, calm down. I have managed to try quite a few new products this month and have discovered some absolute winners.

Let’s do this.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation

I have had this foundation for a little while, but it just wasn’t 100% sold on it. It didn’t blow me away, it applied patchy and streaky, and to be completely honest, I regretted ever buying it. But I persevered, not wanting to waste it and now after much more use, and a whole lot of trial and error, I really like it. I find that a hydrating, moisturiser like primer works best, as well as using a buffing brush to blend out. I also try to pat it down with a damp Beauty Blender to really make it uniform and streak-free. But the biggest thing I have found, which is really weird, the hotter the day and more oily I am, the better this foundation looks. Which is way I have been loving it so much this month – Sydney has been an inferno. The combination of the powdery finish and my natural oils, results in something magical. My skin looks super glowy, flawless and not in the least bit cakey. It does seems to break up around my nose at around the 8 hour mark, but in this heat what foundation wouldn’t.

Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Ultra Dark*

Sweet baby cheeses, where has this Tan been all my life? It has got to be the most natural, streak-free, long-lasting tan I have ever rubbed into my limbs. I received so many compliments on my tan, everyone thought I was fresh from a tropical holiday. The colour is just gorgeous and blends so well into the skin. It dries quickly and doesn’t leave any sticky or tacky feeling. Plus there is only the smallest amount of fake tan scent,  that I only noticed once I was marinating in bed.  The tan lasted just over a week and just slowly faded away. I have finally found my holy grail tan. Now I understand why everyone raves about, and it is with good reason. If you haven’t tried Loving Tan, do yourself a huge favour and get it all over body now!

This photo was taken about 4 days after application and it is still so dark

The Peach Box*

I have always been a silver or white gold die hard, I would have never imagined wearing, or being so in love with these rose gold pieces.  I really wanted the same watch and bangle, but in silver, when I saw that they were sold out, I took the rose gold risk and it has definitely paid off. I mean, just look at how aesthetically pleasing they are. I get compliments left, right, and centre when my wrist is adorned in this gorgeous sparkly rose golden icing.  The Peach Box have the most simplistic, but classy jewellery pieces and I certainly have a few more items on my wishlist, and they currently have a 20% off sale. So tempting…

Colette Earrings

Speaking of all things rose gold, I have been loving these teeny weeny earrings from Colette this month. They are so simple, but add a beautiful little touch to my earlobes. Plus they work so so so well with my Peach Box goodies and I  have been wearing all three pieces to death. I love that they are a little different, but so simplistic at the same time.

Scunci Sailors Knot Comfy Headband*

Bit of a different favourite, but I’ve been trying to be as active as I can lately and this little baby has been a god-send. I like to go for a walk along the beach first thing in the morning, and this super soft headband covers up my bed hear and keeps my hair out of my face. Plus it is really cute with the knot detail, so I feel a little bit more stylish going and grabbing a coffee too.

Luxe Fitness Fat-Burning Protein Powder*

I am really fussy when it comes to protein powders, really fussy. I hate anything gritty, overly sweet, artificial tasting or full of sugar. The amount of powders I have purchased, hoping to be different is ridiculous. But finally I have found it, I have found my holy grail of protein powder. The vanilla flavour is amazing. It actually tastes like vanilla, isn’t too sickly sweet and mixes in perfectly. I have been enjoying this mixed with a banana, ice, milk and a touch of cinnamon every morning and it is delicious. If you are anything like me and hate anything too sweet, this protein powder is for you.

Bare Minerals Gen Nude Collection*

The latest offering from Bare Minerals is a dream for any nude lover, nude-coloured lips that is 😉 The Gen Nude collection  was released at Mecca on the 31st. But I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak. The formula is just gorgeous and oh-so comfortable. They don’t dry down completely matte, which makes for happy, flake-free lips. Due to the creamy formula, they aren’t as long-lasting as other liquid lipsticks but that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. These puppies have lived in my purse since the moment I got them and I can’t wait to get my paws on some more. You will definitely want to get in-store and swatch the flip out of these nude wonders.

Linda Mereditch VTOX*

I  have been using VTOX, Linda Meredith’s natural alternative to Botox, for a few months now. I really reaaaaaally like it. I use it at night under my moisturiser and it honestly feels like little needles on my skin, so that must mean it is working, right? Haha. It isn’t uncomfortable, nor does the sensation last too long. I have noticed a fresher appearance in the morning, plumper skin and a reduction in the fine lines near my eyes. I really love that it is a natural product. It is full of peptides and algae which assist in preventing muscle contractions that cause fine lines and wrinkles. The cream is fairly rich but is easily absorbed into the skin and leaves minimal residue. I can see why it has such a reputation in the beauty and celebrity world.

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Bold Liquid Lipstick *

How are these not spoken about more?! They are an absolute staple in any lipstick lovers collection.  Unlike your normal liquid lipstick, these are creamy and super hydrating. Not too glossy and not too sticky, these little babies are so comfortable to wear, but really pigmented at the same time. The applicator is really fun too, it is a clicky pen style wand with a soft velour cushion on top, that provides the most effortless application. I would highly recommend checking these babies out.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish & Pop Blush in First Love

Although this blush resembles a nipple, it is possibly the most gorgeous blush I own. This particular shade is soft and peachy, which adds the most natural glow to your face. It isn’t matte, nor is it shimmery. It just provides a beautiful sheen to the cheeks. The longevity is great and I find that it lasts longer than most other blushes that I use. As with any other CT products, the packaging is just gorgeous and it is an absolute pleasure to use. I would love to get my mitts on a few more of the shades in the Swish & Pop range.

My last favourite of the month is my favourite Christmas present/best surprise ever. His name is Bruce and he is a little blue ball of fun. The little cutie is only 10 weeks old, but has already started talking. He loves snowpeas, being destructive, preening, crackers, chattering away and trying to chew off my freckles. I am a crazy bird lady, so to say I am enamoured with him is an understatement. I am sure you will see much more of him on my social media channels.

The Perfect Palette Tag

Anyone who knows me, know that I am a complete sucker for eyeshadow palettes. I stumbled across this tag over at The Beauty Collection and thought it would be fun to do (Although I have changed a few titles in the tag). So strap yourselves in and prepare for me to say things like shades, buttery, soft and pigment over and over again – Sorry, not sorry.

Let’s go…

Best Packaging

This is such a tough one. I like the packaging of many different palettes, for so many different reasons. It also depends on my mood, sometimes I like classy, sleek and black or there are other times where I like something a little more colourful and kitsch-y. My mood must be the later today because I think I like LimeCrime’s Venus’ packaging the best today. It is so unique and full of fun and colour. Although the packaging itself is cardboard, it is sturdy and has a strong magnetic closure. I adore the artwork on the front and the gold details and I love the contrast of the colour on the inside.

Best Color Payoff

Nubian Palette by Juvia’s Place. These shades, all of them, ar so so so pigmented. They apply just beautifully. They’re so velvety soft but so full of delicious colour. This palette has surprised me in terms of quality and I am so glad I purchased it. – There is a little funny story behind this purchase, that you can read here. I would like to give an honourable mention to Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance in this category as well.

Best for Travellingimg_1675-2

I almost always take Zoeva Cocoa Blend with me when I travel – It is  a really good all-rounder. The packaging is sleek and thin, perfect to slip into an overnight bag. The colour range is vast, so the look options are basically limitless.  There are mattes and shimmers in cool, neutral and warm tones, darker shades for depth, and a couple of pops of unique colours for something different. The quality and colour pay off is great. Such a versatile palette.

Biggest Regret

This might offend some people, but I’m going to do it any. I really regret spending so much money on my Mac Warm Neutrals palette. While the packaging is stunning and shades selection is great, the colour payoff really lets me down. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t blow me away – like I expected MAC eyeshadows to. There are a couple of colours that are amazing – the bronzey copper shimmer is so pretty (second row, second from the right). But, then there are others that are chalky and give me nothing. So, the palette as a whole is quite disappointing, especially when it is the one I paid the most for.

Best Color Names

This one goes to my Too Faced Sweet Peach – I love that the names match the theme and are even a little outside the box. Names like Candied Peach, Cobbler, Bellini and Peach Pit just remind me of lazy summer afternoons and I love this palette for that. The names, mixed with the Peach scent is just perfection.

Least Used

Now, I firstly want to say that this isn’t because of the quality that the Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector Set (2015) is the winner of this category, It is purely because of the packaging and how it fits into my vanity – A little unfair, I know, but that’s just how it is. This set is made up of 4 smaller palettes and is in quite a large box. Granted there is a smaller box inside that fits one of the smaller palettes for travel but I just haven’t used it. The colours are beautiful and true to Tarte form, full of pigment. Each little palette includes one of their famous blushes as well. Because the housing is so large, it sits right at the back of my drawer and gets forgotten about. I am now, going to make a bigger effort to use these cute little palettes.

Most Used

My most used would have to be Shade and Light by Kat Von D, I pretty much use this baby daily. The shades in this palette are super versatile and are perfect base, transition and depth shades. I am not a fan of all shimmer lids, so I love using these colours to make my look a little more matte. The pigment and the quality of this palette is beautiful. Matte’s can be chalky with little to no colour payoff, but that cannot be said for this entirely matte palette. I would recommned everyone have this palette in their collection.

Most Loved

Why you do dis to me, tag?  I honestly cannot pick one. Sorry tag police.  Most loved palette would have to be a three-way tie, soz.  Firstly I adore Violet Voss’ Holy Grail. The shades and quality give me life.  Seriously, just look at it. It is just so stunning, the lay out of colours is absolute perfection. Not only are there deep burgundy and warm toned browns, but there are pinks, oranges and neutrals. Everything a blue-eyed girl needs in a palette. Secondly is the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. The sheen that these shades provide is so gorgeous, I adore how these shadows look on my eyes and the way the blend into each with little to no effort, it is amazing. Lastly, is the Morphe 35O, I couldn’t possible be writing a posts about palettes and leave this guy out. There is no other palette that has so many shades in such a high-quality for the price. Morphe have the best value for money goin’. Again, the pigment in this palette is incredible. Granted, there a few shades that verge on the chalky side, but overall the quality is top-notch.  Just look at these three palettes, how could you not love them.

Best Drugstore

This palette is only a new one to my collection, but I am so impressed with the quality. Natio have recently released a few eye shadow palettes and I got my hands on the Golden* Palette.  The colours are perfect for everyday wear and the formula is gorgeous, super soft, pigmented and buttery. I have been reaching for this quite a bit recently. I am a bit of an eyeshadow snob and don’t generally buy any drugstore palettes, because in all honesty, with the collection I already own, I don’t see the point in buying any. But I am so glad this Natio palette landed in my grubby little mitts.

Best for Beginners

I am going to go with my first ever palette, The original Lorac Pro, because I found that it has treated me so well and taught me a lot about colour matching. The quality of this palette is second to none, so buttery and full of colour. The shades are easy to blend, with not a huge amount of fallout. Plus there are 8 mattes and 8 matching shimmers which makes it super easy to pair colours. The spectrum of the palette is amazing too, there is a shade for everything, both cool and warm toned and few neutrals for thrown in for good measure. This is a palette that is needed in every collection.

I encourage you all to have a go at this tag, I really enjoyed doing it. What answers would you change?
