Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask REVIEW

It’s got quite the name and boasts a fair list of promises, but does the Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask live up to its claims?

This mask helps reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, uneven skin tone, and texture for smoother, healthier, and younger-looking skin. A botanical blend helps replenish, nourish, and moisturize skin, while kaolin clay and magnesium sulfate help open pores and draw out impurities in an invigorating flash of heat.

The Heat Mask is targeted towards all skin types to fight dullness, texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and dehydrated skin.

What is it?

Formulated with mineral-rich Hungarian Thermal Water, a ridiculously dreamy blend of Sunflower, Jojoba, Peach, Apricot and Rosehip oils, Shea Butter and Pomegranate extract, GATULINE® RC (a beech tree bud extract) and, lastly,  Kaolin Clay and Magnesium Sulfate. It certainly sounds like it is packed to the brim with gorgeous ingredients, but do they translate into results?

Firstly, the packaging is beautiful – the best I’ve seen from PTR yet! The green to blue ombre and gold detailing is really eye-catching and conjures images of clear, fresh waters and bright refreshed skin. The mask itself is quite a unique balm-like consistency, that needs a little warming up between the fingers before it can be spread across the face.  There isn’t any remarkable or irritating fragrance.

After the mask has warmed up on your skin, it is very easy to spread and feels really soft and buttery on the skin. The directions state to leave the mask on for 3 minutes, and then, with wet fingertips, to massage in to activate the heating sensation. Once the heating has ceased, you then rinse off.

I love the way this mask feels on the skin. The formula is velvety and is only improved by the heating factor, which really makes it a relaxing and soothing experience.  My skin feels oh-so-soft and strokable after the mask has been washed off. My complexion is really bright and looking happy with a healthy glow.  I definitely noticed a difference in hydration level of my skin. My skin looked and felt nourished and plump. After a handful of uses, I can’t say that I noticed any change in fine lines or wrinkles, but I honestly wouldn’t expect to in such a short time and from the use of a mask alone.

To summarise, I really enjoy using this mask. I love the way it feels both while it is on the skin and afterwards. It is a quick mask to use and would be ideal to give your skin a glowy, healthy look before an event when you are in a pinch. The jar itself is quite large, and needing only a small amount for each application, I would imagine it to last for quite a while. I have nothing negative to say about the Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask (Well, maybe a shorter name? ;))

Does this mask sound like a winner to you?

Elucent Skincare REVIEW

The one thing that sticks out for me with Elucent is it’s inclusion of fabulous active ingredients.

Hello petals,

Here we are again, looking at another skincare review. This time I wanted to discuss Elucent skincare. I have previously used their whitening range, and was quite impressed with the results and quality of the products. So, when I was asked to more formal review, I did a little happy dance. I used the products previously until they were empty, and have been using them again for the last 4 weeks.

The one thing that sticks out for me with Elucent is it’s inclusion of fabulous active ingredients. Since discovering the world of AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) a little while ago, it is something that I find is essential in my skincare products. It has completely changed the texture, look and all-round health of my complexion. AHA’s work by gently chemically exfoliating and resurfacing the skin to leave brighter, smoother and fresher skin.  The Anti-Aging range star ingredient is AHA’s, while the Whitening Range uses Safflower Seed Oil and Emblica Fruit extract to target pigmentation. I have been using products from both ranges.

So, let’s break down the regime…

Anti-Aging Gentle Cleanser

It was recommended that  I use the Anti-Aging Gentle Cleanser with 2% AHAs for refining and brightening my sometimes dull complexion.

Carefully formulated with a blend of cleansers and moisturisers this gentle facial cleanser will refresh the skin without causing dryness, while the combination of AHAs and vitamins B3 and E work together to gently exfoliate and visibly revitalise the skin. After using this face wash, your skin is perfectly prepared for your Elucent moisturiser. Use Elucent Anti-Ageing Gentle Cleanser as your primary skin cleanser for youthful-looking skin.

This cleanser is really lovely and mild. As expected it is gentle on skin and doesn’t leave me feeling tight and dry. As an avid user of the ‘double cleanse’ method, the Elucent cleanser really is the perfect second step to ensure my skin is getting an effective clean while being nourished at the same time . I LOVE the thought of the AHA’s gently exfoliating and treating my skin without the harsh drying that usually comes along with using hard-working active ingredients. With only 2% AHA’s, combined with soothing B3 and E vitamins, this is a really great product to use to slowly introduce your skin to chemical exfoliation without the threat of irritation.  This is definitely my favourite out of the products that I have tried.

Whitening Day Moisturiser

The powerful moisturising agents work to give the skin a hydrating boost, while the broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun and sun induced darkening. For best results, use in combination with Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser and Elucent Whitening Night Moisturiser

As soon as I pumped out the day moisturiser into my hand, I was a little concerned. The formula is quite thick, white and scented like sunscreen – reminding of my days in the surf club, of thick heavy sun block that leaves a white cast. However, my initial impressions were way off.  The cream rubs and absorbs into the skin fairly easily, with no white cast in sight. It does however leave a slight tacky finish, but not greasy at all, I find that this actually works well under makeup and creates a great base even slightly improving the longevity of wear. My face feels soft, hydrated and I feel confident that the SPF30 (UVA & UVB) fully protects my skin from our harsh Australian sun.

Whitening Night Moisturiser

The rich moisturisers work to help revitalise the skin’s appearance by replenishing moisture lost throughout the day, while helping to reduce the appearance of dark spots and discolouration. For best results, use in combination with Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser and Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser.

I really enjoy this night cream, and find that it is just nourishing enough for my oily skin without being too heavy. I don’t get on with anything too rich, but I still need something hydrating enough to keep my skin happy. This product definitely sits in that bracket. The formula looks and feels really thick at first, but once spread across the face, it sinks in effortlessly. I did notice brightening effects after prolonged use, but only a minimal difference in pigmentation. But with that being said, my skin is as pigmented as anything at the moment – a lovely side effect of pregnancy.

Overall, I think the quality of these products are fabulous – especially for the price. The active and nourishing ingredients shine through, giving users effective skincare products, targeting specific concerns without hurting the wallet.

Elucent Skincare can be found nationwide at Chemist Warehouse.

Obagi Nu-Derm Skincare Review

New Year,  new me? Nah, I’m not about that phrase. I just try and be a better person than I was the day before. I don’t need a new diary to get my act into gear. But New Year, New Skincare, now that’s a slogan I can get on board with. I have really been trying hard to sort my skin out and stick to a routine, but being a Beauty Blogger, it is a surprisingly difficult feat. I am constantly trying products and jumping between brands and ingredients, which don’t get me wrong is fabulous, and my skin is doing really well, but I don’t often get the chance to really stick with a brand.

I have had Obagi Skincare sitting in my drawer for a little while now, but because it is a whole system, I have been waiting to finish off some other bits and bobs before I can devote myself exclusively to this promising skincare relationship. So far we are nearing our 10 week anniversary and we are going strong. So let’s dive in and I’ll introduce you to my newest skincare love.

Lovely loyal, beautiful readers meet clever, unassuming Obgai Nu Derm.

Firstly off the bat I should mention that the products that I have are specifically for Oily/Normal skin types, there a differing products available for individual skin concerns. Obagi has been scientifically and clinically developed to change the skin at a cellular level. Created by a dermatologist and endorsed in Australia by leading Cosmetics Surgeons, Obagi is generally prescribed by professionals to treat problematic skin.

Of course you cannot have a good skincare routine without a decent cleanser, and this cleanser is just ace. It is a pinky coloured gel that feels just beautiful on the skin. It lathers up well and cleans away all makeup, sweat and dirt to leave refreshed and happy skin without that horrible tight feeling or any dryness. The foaming gel is really effective, but surprisingly gentle. The scent is sweet, but not sickly nor overpowering. I really have been enjoying the simplicity and results of this cleanser.

The next step of the system is of course a toner. I usually have a nonplussed relationship with toners, they either feel like the do absolutely nothing, feel drying, leave an oily residue or sting the life outta my eyeballs. It is one product that I can usually go without. Buttttttt, this little baby is an absolute god-send. It feels fresh and cleansing, but seems to have more of a calming effect than anything. It doesn’t feel sticky, oily or too astringent. It just feels damn good. My skin is left hydrated, balanced and my oily mug seems to be well and truly mattified without being dried out. I would never thought that I would look forward to using a toner to much.

The next product in the program is a bit of a different one and is only used in the AM – Exoderm Forte – Exfoliation Enhancer. You all know how much I love AHA’s so this is a great addition to my routine. This lotion is used for daily chemical exfoliation to ensure all dead skin cells, dull and dry skin  is brought back to its best. But, even though this is an AHA, there is no irritation or redness that occurs after use.The formula is light and easy to spread and best of all, it doesn’t leave any greasy film or residue. It works perfectly under make up and does leave my skin looking smooth and fresh. I really like the idea of this product to add in some extra benefits to my skin.

Another essential in any skincare regime is a serum. I have been using the Obagi Professional C serum. This serum is 15% vitamin C, which promotes a healthy and bright complexion. I have used vitamin c based products before but have never been blown away by the results and this one unfortunately was no exception.  The serum is light, but a little tacky and it does take a little while to absorb, which makes it difficult to apply in the morning, as I am quite time poor and can’t wait 20 minutes for my skincare to sink in. While the formula smells lovely and does eventually make my skin feel and look brighter, It isn’t my favourite serum and It isn’t something that I would continue to use. I just feel like I have used other serums in the past that have delivered amazing results for a fraction of the price.

Lastly, but most certainly not least is the Facial Moisturiser. I have really been loving this and I will be quite sad when this little guy has been emptied. The formula is quite creamy but not too heavy and it absorbs relatively quickly and leaves my skin really hydrated and my skin remains plump all day. Obagi claim that it won’t clog pores, which I whole-heartedly agree with. It isn’t too heavy for my oily skin and could see any type loving and benefiting from this moisturiser.

Overall,  I have really really enjoyed Obagi. My skin has been very well-behaved during use and I have definitely found a few winners that I would love to continue to use. It is evident that a lot of research and clinical trials have occurred to ensure these products perform well. I like that the products are recommended and backed by professionals that believe in the system. I also think that it is fabulous that there is a different regime for different skin types, because we all know that when it comes to skin, not one size fits all. You’d expect a chemical smell from a clinically development range, but not at all. I think a lot of people would also expect the products to be a little harsh, but that is not at all the case. Each of the products are gentle, effective and an absolute pleasure to use.

What are you current skincare loves?
