March Favourites

Can you believe that it is April already? The months are just flying by. So let’s waste no time in diving into my favourite products last month..

Kat Von D – Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette

Why did it take me so long to purchase this bad boy?! It is just something else. At first glance I fell in love; The packaging is sleek, sturdy and somehow sexy… if make up can even be sexy. The pans are generous and beautifully set out into tone coordinated quads. The colours are super pigmented, and so very buttery. Really blendable and buildable, this eyeshadow palette is just perfection. I try to use a different eyeshadow palette each day, but I have been reaching for this constantly. If this palette isn’t in your collection, you really need to take a long hard look at yourself 😉  This is my first purchase from Kat Von D Beauty range, and judging by the quality of this product I really need to get my grubby mitts on some more.

Real-U 3 Step Skincare (Cleanse, Control and Hydrate)

Real-U has been an absolute god-send. I have oily, congested skin and suffer from blackheads and hormonal breakouts. Since using Real-U my skin has completely changed. My breakouts are minimal, my face feels smooth and fresh. I feel so much more confident going out without any make-up on, and trust me, that is a huge deal. You can read a detailed review of Real-U here.

NYX Cosmetics – Intense Butter Gloss

It feels like I have been waiting for these to be released for ever.  As an avid user of the regular Butter Gloss, you could imagine my excitement when the intense version was announced. I picked up 4 colours from Target (Spice Cake, Tres Leches, Sorbet and Chocolate Crepe). They are the same creamy formula as the Butter Gloss, but pack a pigmented punch.  Stay tuned for a more detailed post about these guys.

Rodial – Super Acids X-Treme Hangover Mask

Face masks are another of my vices. At any one time I probably have 4 or 5 on the go. I bought this guy a little while ago and have finally gotten around to using him. I have heard really good things about Rodial skincare and have been  interested in trying their products.  Rodial‘s Super Acid X-Treme Hangover Mask is a triple action resurfacing clay mask with hexapeptide, glycolic and fruit acids and probiotic technology. It claims to hide a multitude of sins (That is a big yes in my book). It smells super fruity and applies really easily. There is a slight cooling and tingling sensation while the mask dries, which feels really refreshing. My face is left feeling toned, moisturised and sparkling. I really like this mask, it is a pleasure to use and easy to take off. I am looking forward to being able to try more Rodial skincare.

Josie Maran – Argan Oil

I do love a multi-use product, but damn, this is fixes everything. I like spreading it through my hair to seal split ends and for a boost of moisture. Argan Oil is also great on the dry skin around my fingers, to seems to heal it up quick smart. I also add a few drops to brow pomades and eyeshadow cremes when they become a bit dry, and it makes them as good as new. But my favourite use is with make up. I add a few drops to my Beauty Blender while applying foundation and it spreads and blends perfectly. It adds a nice glow and I feel like it prolongs the longevity of my foundation. Most natural oils can be used the same way. Give it a go and see how you like it.

Maybelline – Eye Studio Colour Tattoo Leather Longwear Eyeshadow (Creamy Beige)

This little guy was an unplanned purchase. Although I do love the regular Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows, they’re not something that I reach for all the time.  I was doing my groceries in Woolworth’s a few weeks ago and found the Maybelline range on sale. So for $5 I thought why not?! I am so glad it picked it up. The leather range is a matte formula but with a bit of a sheen. The longevity of the Colour Tattoo cremes are crazy. They don’t crease on me like most eyeshadows and are great for an all over lid colour. They also make an excellent eyeshadow base, which is how I predominantly use mine. I haven’t seen many other colours in this range, but would definitely be interested in a cream and dark brown.

White Glo – Diamond Series Advanced Teeth Whitening System

For as long as I can remember I have hated my teeth. It is that one thing about me that I would change if I had the opportunity. But within the last year or so, I have really started to embrace them. Plus gaps are apparently ‘in’. So I have been trialling different whitening products to make them look the best that they can. I have been using this system for the last week and I have already noticed a difference. The system is easy to use and comes with whitening tooth paste as well. I have even had a few comments on how white my teeth are looking . I am excited to see the results after using this system a little more.

Lush – Colour Supplement (Dark Yellow)

I have had this little pot of magic for a while, but it always gets lost amongst my other foundations. But since my skin has been looking so great, I have been using lighter bases and this guy has been a winner. Made with beautiful natural ingredients like rice bran and soya oils. Not only does it work, but it is actually good for your skin. The Colour Supplement can be mixed with moisturiser, used on its own as a base or as a concealer. Even though the pot is particularly small, you only need a small amount to cover your whole face. The only thing I would suggest is using a powder of the top to set. If it is left unset, the foundation can be a little sticky.

Have you used any of these products? What were your March favourites.

Until next time..

Let’s talk trash…

This will be the first post of many in this series. I have been gathering these empties for 2 months and due to being on a spending ban, I have been going through products like crazy. So please stay tuned for a lengthy post.

Sugar Baby Vita + Skin – Sugar C-rush (Coconut & Raw Sugar Exfoliating Body Scrub)
I’ll start off by saying I am a body scrub fiend. I love the sensation of grainy scrubs on the skin. Not only do they exfoliate and moisturise like a charm, remove every last bit of false tan, but they also create the sense of a spa treatment. Well, I think so anyway. This particular sugar scrub is so dreamy. The scent takes me away to some sort of tropical paradise and the scrub does its job perfectly. My skin is left so silky smooth and fresh. I generally use this the night before I plan to fake tan or whenever I need a little pampering.

Ishka – Raw Sugar Scrub (Coconut & Vanilla)
… as I said, I am a fiend. This scrub is very comparable to the Sugar Baby scrub. The scent is so similar, if not a little stronger. My bathroom smells beautiful for the next day. The botanical and coconut oils moisturise and leave my body feeling heavenly. These scrubs are Australian made, organic, vegan and cruelty free. Plus they come in all sorts of amazing scents like – Vanilla and Orange, Goji Berry and Basil, Coffee and Vanilla. Ishka often have 50% off sales, I will definitely stock up on these next time.

Bondi Sands – Liquid Gold
I have never been a religious fake tanner, nor have I ever been that interested. However, dry tanning oils have completely changed that. I used the St. Tropez Dry Oil a year or so ago and fell in love. I used it only for special occasions due to the price tag. But then Bondi Sands released their own Self Tanning Dry Oil and a weekly tanning routine was created. This fast drying tan contains nourishing coconut and argan oil. There is no fake tan smell and no wash off required. Liquid gold is long lasting and fades evenly. The only negative is that there is no colour guard, which makes it easy to miss patches. But after a bit of practice, I feel as if I have almost perfected my application. The bottle lasts for around 5 uses and is really reasonably priced.

Original Source – 40 Limes Body Wash.
I love Original Source Body Wash and stay pretty damn loyal to the brand. I think it is safe to say I’ve used every scent and repurchased these over and over again. My boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with these as well. 40 Limes definitely isn’t my favourite but sometimes it’s nice to change things up. That being said, it doesn’t mean the 40 Limes is awful, it’s actually really good. I just prefer the Mint and Raspberry Vanilla scents.

Oh Deer Sugar – Blueberry Cheesecake Bath Bomb Jar
I love exploring and discovering small Australian brands. Although Oh Deer Sugar is no longer that small (Good on them!). I have made a few purchases from their website over the last little while and have absolutely adored all their products. The idea of a bath bomb jar gets me a little excited. I really enjoy having the control over how much product I use and being able to mix and match. But you do lose the novelty of a bath bomb fizzing away and exploding with colour. Which is why I generally add a scoop of this to an already bombed bath. This jar has lasted forever and smells delicious. This brand is adorable and deserves every success. The bakery style products are just amazing. Holding out ’till my spending ban is up and I can make another order. I’d love to add a face mask to my order to give a go.

GlamGlow – PowerMud Dual Treatment
GlamGlow seems to be a cult favourite. I purchased a few samples sizes while I was visiting Hawaii to see what the fuss was about. And I just can’t see why they are so popular. Although I haven’t had the chance to trial the white version, the two masks I did try didn’t blow me away. While the consistency is lovely and they feel really nice on the skin. They smell strongly of chemicals and leave my skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. These are not masks that will remain in my skincare regime.

Lush – 9-5 cleansing lotion
While I love Lush, I find a lot of their products to be hit and miss. 9-5 is a bit of a miss for me. There’s really nothing that is wrong about it, but there’s also nothing overwhelmingly right. The scent is very mild and leaves my skin feeling a little oily and not thoroughly cleansed. While it does the job and feels nice, it’s not a cleanser that I love.

Lush – American Cream Conditioner
I started this conditioner quite a while ago and wasn’t too impressed. The smell is incredible but it didn’t seem to last, nor did I find it very conditioning. But I have since cut my locks into a lob and thought I’d try to use this up. My opinion has completely changed. American Cream perfumed my hair and this lasted until my next wash. A few people even mentioned the strawberry milkshake scent. My hair was soft and shiny and oh-so sweet smelling.

Lush – Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie
I received Turkish Delight as a little extra in an online order. I have never used a shower smoothie before so I was intrigued. Turkish Delight smells of rose and feels nourishing but left a bit of an oily film on my skin. I wasn’t overly impressed.

Lush – Big Shampoo
This is a re-purchase. Big smells absolutely amazing. It has got to my favourite lush smell. Full of sea salt and lemon, this shampoo can be a little drying but man, does it give great volume. I look forward to using Big once a week to give my fine, limp hair a little boost. I just ensure my follow-up conditioner is really nourishing. It’s a winner.

Lush – Marilyn Hair Treatment
Marilyn is a pre-wash treatment aimed at blondes for brighter hair. With notes of banana and oats, Marilyn smells lovely but that’s about where the good stops. I found this hair treatment did nothing for me and really weighed down my hair, regardless of what amount I used. Marilyn won’t be joining me in the shower again unfortunately.

Lush – So White Shower Gel
Limited Edition So White smells of crisp apples and rose. It’s the same consistency as most Lush shower washes. It leaves you smelling great and feeling squeaky clean. It’s a really lovely uplifting scent. Will repurchase next time it is released.

Lush – Retread Hair Conditioner
Retread is marketed as a triple strength conditioner. Which aims to give life to rough and wrecked strands. Since my bleached hair is often course and dry I thought this would be ideal. However, the conditioner is similar to Marilyn in that it left my hair oily and heavy. Once again it smelled great, full of orange and violet. But I just couldn’t get Retread to work for me.

Are you still with me? Only a few more to go..

Lush – Vanillary Perfume
Vanilla is hands-down my favourite scent, but it often can be too sweet and artificial. This perfume is exactly what vanilla should be. It’s a warm, soft and creamy caramel scent with subtle notes of jasmine. hallelujah! This perfume is absolute perfection. I have repurchased this too many times to count and will continue to for the rest of my days.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Wiz in Soft Brown.
This was the first ABH product I bought and have re-purchased it many times over. I love the tiny pencil and the dual ended spoolie. This little guy is perfect for on the go and oh-so easy to use. Always a staple in my makeup bag.

Too Faced – Better Than Sex Mascara
Hello holy grail mascara! Better Than Sex is just that. It makes my eyelashes look huge and full without being clumpy. This mascara is jet black and lasts all day without flaking or transferring. The packaging is cute and sturdy. Although BTS is on the more expensive side it is definitely worth it. I will be re-purchasing after my spending ban is up.

Benefit – They’re Real Mascara (Sample size)
This is a great little mascara, but only if it is the sample size. Strange, right? But I just don’t get the same results using the full size. They’re Real lengthens, separates and adds volume. It is super black and a little wetter than most mascaras. Not sure whether I’ll repurchase, as Better a Than Sex in my go-to.

And we are done. Thank you so much for hanging in there and reading the entire blog post, even though there was probably something more productive you could have been doing 😉 Haha.

Real-U Australia Skincare

IMG_2116I was fortunate enough to be sent some Real-U skincare products to try. Real-U is an Australian brand that boasts about being able to control and clear your skin gently. The skin care program is a 3-step regime targeted at oily and blemish prone skin (Absolutely perfect for me!)

Their website states “Targeting oily and acne prone skin and even the occasional annoying spot. It has a delicious effect of reducing your pore size, making your skin smoother. With no irritating nasties like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid… It’s gentle on your skin.”

I absolutely love that Real-U products contain no nasties and are gentle on the skin, but do they work? After trialling Real-U for 4 weeks, these are my thoughts –

Gentle Foaming Wash

The first step in the regime contains Aloe Vera, known for its soothing properties and claims it is pH balanced. This was the one product I thought I wasn’t going to like. In the past foaming cleansers left my skin  feeling tight, tingly and dry. But not this one. My skin felt soft, clean and refreshed. The foaming wash is a gel consistency that lathers up nicely and removes all makeup and residue of the day.

IMG_2114

Control Face Gel

This one the one product I was most intrigued by. The Control Gel is marketed as a serum and is the work horse of the three products. It aims to treat blemishes and maintain the skins condition. I apply the serum straight out of the shower and soaks in by the time I have gotten dressed. The gel soothes and cools, and my skin is left feeling refreshed and soft and perfectly prepared for moisturising.

IMG_2113

Hydrate Lite Moisturiser

The moisturiser claims to replenish, rebalance and hydrate the skin without clogging pores. The moisturiser is similar to a gel consistency and soaks in almost instantly.  It is super lightweight and soothing. I really like the moisturiser and feel like it creates a perfect base for makeup.

IMG_2115

Overall, I have noticed a huge difference in my skin texture. Blemishes are few and far between and when they do pop up, I feel like they don’t stick around for too long. I love the simplicity of these products. They stand up to the claims of being gentle, yet packing a punch. The only con is that my face seems to sweat for a little while after applying the serum and moisturiser . Granted, it has been warm lately. But I just found this a little bizarre but nothing that causes too much of an issue.  These guys will continue to remain in my skin care regime.  I am even thinking about purchasing the Control + Face Serum for a little more treatment for when my skin is a bit hormonal.

I’d love to know your experience if you have used Real-U.
