Pixi Glow-y Gossamer Duos Review and Swatches

Introducing the Pixi By Petra, Glow-y Gossamer Duos. These sparkly wonders are just a little bit of magic. While they look unassuming, housed in their simple little compacts, these babies are something a bit special.

Available in two different shades – Subtle Sunrise and Delicate Dew. Subtle Sunrise contains a beautiful gold and rose gold shade that has a soft pink shift. Delicate Dew has a champagne pink and a golden bronze. I think I love Subtle Sunrise just a smidge more, the gold just suits my skin tone perfectly.

These are the best damn highlighters I have come across in a lonnnng time.  The texture is unlike anything I’ve ever really used. At first swatch, you could be fooled into thinking that these powders are really a soft velvety cream. But, in fact, they are a very unique feeling powder. They almost feel cool and wet in the pan. While they appear super shimmery and pigmented, the finish isn’t at all glittery or chunky. They add the most beautifully understated metallic sheen to the highpoints of your face. Somehow they give the skin that wet look without highlighting any texture.

Top to bottom – Subtle Sunrise and Delicate Dew

I like to apply these duos by tapping the powder on my cheekbones and blending out with a brush.  I haven’t had a whole lot of luck applying the powders with a brush so far. You can layer the powder on the top of a liquid illuminator to get a blinding highlight, otherwise, these create the most beautiful lit-from-within effect. I’ve found the shades with pink or bronze undertones work really well as a blush topper as well.

I have been using these duos non-stop, favoring them over my high-end products.  But do you want to know the best part? The duos retail for under $30 each and with two shades in the pan, you can’t go wrong.

You can find the Pixi Glow-y Gossamer Duos at Adorebeauty.com.au

MAC Matte Fix Plus And Pore Refiner Stick Review

MAC have recently built upon their Prep & Prime collection and added a couple of variations to Fix+, including Pinklite, Goldlite, scented versions and more recently a Matte Fix+. This, in addition to a brand new Pore Refiner Stick, has got oily girls like me, a little excited.

MAC’s Fix Plus has got to be one of those items that almost everyone has in their collection, or at least used at some stage.  It has a multitude of uses and certainly is a fixture in my collection. MAC have recently built upon their Prep & Prime collection and added a couple of variations to Fix Plus, including Pinklite, Goldlite, scented versions and more recently a Matte Fix+. This, in addition to a brand new Pore Refiner Stick, has got oily girls like me, a little excited. I’ve put them to the test and come back with my thoughts.

Matte Fix+

A light, oil-free emulsion that helps conceal visible pores while controlling oil. Applies “wet” for a gentle micro-exfoliation; dries instantly to create an invisible, long-lasting natural matte finish. Ideal for the T-zone.

At first glance, the formula looks clear, but much like its sparkly counterparts, give it a shake and a powder-like substance mixes in and turns the liquid a milky colour. MAC claims that this bad boy can be used both before and after makeup application for a mattifying effect.

There is no scent and the mist is exactly the same as the regular Fix+. As soon as I spray this over my face, I can immediately see a difference. I’ve used this on both matte and dewy foundations and the result stays the same – a suuuper matte finish. There isn’t any flashback, nor any residue of any kind on the face. The longevity of my makeup is dramatically increased and my oily t-zone is basically non-existent. Say whaaat? I am so impressed.

IMG_8588

Overall, I’m sold.  I think especially in Summer when sweat and oil are an even bigger issues, this bottle is going to be my matte saviour. If you love a matte finish and struggle with being an oil slick, I would highly recommend getting your mitts on this.

Pore Refiner Stick

A magic stick that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles for a smooth matte finish.

IMG_8591

I know I am not alone in the struggle of giant pores. They almost always come hand-in-hand with oily skin – aren’t we lucky! I am constantly trying products to disguise and diminish the look of these gaping holes all over my face, so I think I did a happy dance when this little stick arrived at Beauty Bender HQ. The stick appears to be quite small but only a small swipe is needed on the skin. Once applied, it feels weightless and so smooth on the face.

I did note an instant reduction in the appearance of my pores and also a mattifying effect. I also noticed that fine lines were hidden and my skin, in general, look much smoother. Foundation applied perfectly over the top – no balling or slipping at all.  My pores are disguised, not totally erased because let’s face it, you’d need putty to fill in those bad boys, but there is definitely a difference.

This is another winner in my opinion. Due to how light the formula is, it also works brilliantly over the top of your regular primer or works well on its own. I was never a fan of products like the Benefit Porefessional as it left a bit of a residue behind and made my makeup slip, but the MAC Pore Refiner Stick doesn’t do this at all, in fact, it adds to the longevity of my makeup. Winner.

What do you think? Do you need help with your oil situation?

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon Review

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently dropped a particularly unusual product – a  liquid lipstick in crayon form. Are you as intrigued as me? The concept seems pretty contradictory to me. Available from Sephora Australian, let’s see what these are all about.

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently dropped a particularly unusual product – a  liquid lipstick in crayon form. Are you as intrigued as me? The concept seems pretty contradictory to me, as crayons are usually sheer, moisturising formulas that can be used one-handed when you’re in a pinch.  Liquid lipsticks, on the other hand, are a whole different ball game, needing precision and concentration to get that highly pigmented, long-lasting formula on the lips.  Always happy to offer up my face and body as a guniea pig for the sake of beauty innovation, I had to give these a try.

IMG_7973

What Marc Jacobs says –

Rewrite the (lipstick) rules: Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon is everything you love about a liquid lipstick in the form of a creamy crayon. It melts into lips with a lightweight liquid sensation, providing powerful one-swipe colour with bold impact. A dose of innovative “ghost pearl” gives the matte look a dimensional sheen for a never-before-seen finish. The crayon offers total control for effortless application. It’s easier than ever to shape and fill your lips.

I picked up the shades How Rouge!, Flaming-Oh! and Coral Fixation. The shades do swatch like standard matte shades on the hand,  but there is so much more to these incredible colours. Once on the lips, there is this pearlescence, almost chrome sort of shift, that I find really hard to describe. They really are a multidimensional shade that looks very unique and shows up differently in natural and artificial lights.

The formula is ridiculously creamy, so much so, that at first, it is hard to imagine these being very long-lasting. They glide across the lip and deliver a HUGE amount of pigment, while the crayon actually allows a great deal of control and precision. I find it so much easier to get my desired lipline with this method of delivery.  While the formula is creamy and soft on application they do surprisingly dry down to a satin matte finish, without too much transfer. The longevity isn’t as great as your usual liquid lip, but still lasts through food and drink.  The shades are definitely not flat. The ‘ghost pearl’ certainly adds dimension and the most gorgeous sheen and shift to the lips. To say I am impressed is an understatement.

IMG_7975

Le Marc Liquid lip Crayon is all my lip product dreams come true. It is this unreal, bold pigment in a creamy, comfortable formula that is easy to apply and lasts really well. It is as if they have picked the all best properties from a liquid lip, traditional lipstick and crayon and mixed them all together into this absolute winner. The formula also seems to leave out all the not-so-great features. I would love to see a bigger shade range with a few more nudes, oranges added into the mix, but that won’t stop me from going HAM and getting my grubby mitts on all 10 shades.  I cannot stress to you enough about how much I adore these little numbers.

You can find these at Sephora.com.au for $38 a pop.

What do you think? Are the Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons worthy of a spot in your collection?

Having never tried Illamasqua before, I was really impressed to see that RY stocked a decent amount of products from the brand. I got my grubby little mitts on the Rich Liquid Foundation and the Beyond Powder in OMG.

Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation

Achieve maximum coverage with the Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation; a coveted makeup base utilised and loved by professional makeup artists.

The liquid formula is effortlessly applied to the complexion, offering seamless, blended and water-resistant results. Delivering a semi-matte finish, the foundation conditions the skin and is able to eliminate excess oil to reduce unwanted shine. A perfect base for flawless and long lasting makeup application.

I seriously love the packaging – it is a squeezy tube but still looks oh-so-chic. Absolutely perfect for travel and to pop in your handbag without the risk of shattering. Other brands need to take note.

My first impressions weren’t great. I had washed all my brushes and sponges,  so they were downstairs drying, so when I went to apply this foundation, I used my Clarisonic with the foundation brush head. BIG mistake. The foundation was cakey, thick and immediately settled into my pores and fine lines. It created texture where there was none. You know how I love a subtle glow, but this was beyond. Within half an hour of wearing this, it looked like you could fry an egg on my chin – it was that greasy. I needed to powder before leaving the house, and while this did contain the oil, it did little to help with the other issues. In fact, it made my skin look even worse.

Throughout the day my skin felt disgusting and heavy, and looking in the mirror was a fright. These results are the exact opposite of what this foundation is meant to achieve. So I have put it down as perhaps too much product and not the best tool for the job.

But, because I think products can often be misrepresented by first impressions, I persevered and kept wearing the foundation, and lucky I did. I experimented with tools, primers, and powders to really make the most of the foundation and get it to work for my skin. I found that a Beauty Blender is by far my favourite way to apply. It sheers out the thick formula which, in turn, prevents caking. This, in addition to a pore-filling primer like the Tatcha Silk Canvas really makes all the difference. You can see by the photos below how much more natural and smooth my skin looks. A huge difference from the results on the first day of wear.

This foundation is heavy duty. Full coverage and really long wearing. Definitely not something you’d reach for on a daily basis. But for a special occasion, it is ideal. It photographs so bloody well and covers everythinggggg. I think it would work well for most skin types but, like me, you might need to play around with a few factors to ensure you get the most out of the Illamasqua Rich Foundation.

Illamasqua Beyond Powder in OMG

The silky powder glides effortlessly over skin, and can be used to create an all-over illuminated finish or applied with more precision to perform like a highlighter. Perfect for illuminating the high points of the face and reflecting light, the powder is effective when worn on the top of the cheek bones, brow bones and even the collar bones.

Facetune_24-05-2018-20-16-45

This highlighter is gorgeous! Probably one of the prettiest in my collection and the white gold shade is just my cup of tea. The packagaing again steals the show. The shiny black plastic is so sleek and the shape is just so unique and appealing.   The powder itself is very fine and applies beautifully.  It leaves a lovely subtle shimmer that perfectly highlights the high point of the face. This is the exact type of illuminator that I lust over. Soft, subtle with a slight warm undertone – perfect.  Using the Beyond Powder with a dry brush gives your skin the most gorgeous glow, but if you wanna ramp it up and get that ‘gram worthy glow, it can also be applied with a wet brush – I haven’t attempted this, because it is just not my thing.

Facetune_24-05-2018-20-25-24

I am seriously impressed with the two Illamasqua products that I have tried, and I am looking forward to browsing through the rest of the range on RY.com.au and picking up some more goodies.

What are your favourite RY.COM.AU brands?

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation Review

The relatively new Bobbi Brown Weightless Foundation landed on my desk at On A Beauty Bender HQ last week, eager to find a new daily foundation, I put it straight to the test. With claims of light-weight consistency,  a comfort matte finish, long-lasting coverage and an SPF15, this really seems to be a good contender.

Get your complexion covered all day with this 16-hour wear, buildable medium to full coverage foundation with a natural, multidimensional matte finish that’s comfortable, breathable, and weightless.

IMG_6708

I simply adore the simple glass bottle. It’s a great size that fits into my drawers and has a pump style delivery which is my preferred method. Bobbi Brown do understated class so damn well.

The foundation applies well, it is really workable and can be applied with a sponge, brush or even fingers. I prefer using a Beauty Blender to ensure an even, streak-free and super natural looking finish, I found that a brush did tend to make it look a little streaky and thick.  The coverage can be built up with ease without the threat of the dreaded cakeface.

I found the formula to be creamy, but light like a gel, which seems contradictory but somehow works. I love that with only a light layer, the foundation can even-out skintone and cover blemishes without looking like a mask, but rather acting like a second skin which allows your own skin to shine through – cute little freckles and all.  There is no clinging to dry patches, nor is it too matte that it enhances any texture on my face. Plus, it does a really good job of controlling my oil during the day. As expected my natural oils start to penetrate slightly half-way through the day, but we definitely don’t get to oil-slick territory.

IMG_6701

The wear time is great, and I think this is its only slight downfall. It claims to wear for 16-hours – I can attest to about 12 hours. It definitely does last, but I noticed quite a bit of fading after about 7 hours. The foundation does start to break up a little around my nose and chin, revealing a little bit of redness, but nothing that couldn’t be touched up. So, all-in-all it performs really well.

IMG_6978

Another plus is the shade range. It boasts 30 shades with different undertones, which gives you a fairly decent amount of options to find the right shade for your complexion.

Overall, I am pretty well sold on the Bobbi Brown Skin long-Wear Weightless Foundation. It is definitely light-weight and natural looking but it also covers up the bad bits, smoothes and evens out skin tone all while lasting you most of the day and offering a small amount of SPF. It really ticks the boxes for my current needs and will be a regular on my face.  I have definitely found a new daily wear foundation in this little beauty. I would imagine that it would work well for most skin types and would perhaps wear longer on you gals with not so oily skin.

IMG_6702

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation retails for $70 and can be purchased directly from the BB website or from Mecca Maxima and department stores.

Does this little number tickle your fancy?
