Pixi Glow-y Gossamer Duos Review and Swatches

Introducing the Pixi By Petra, Glow-y Gossamer Duos. These sparkly wonders are just a little bit of magic. While they look unassuming, housed in their simple little compacts, these babies are something a bit special.

IMG_4023

Available in two different shades – Subtle Sunrise and Delicate Dew. Subtle Sunrise contains a beautiful gold and rose gold shade that has a soft pink shift. Delicate Dew has a champagne pink and a golden bronze. I think I love Subtle Sunrise just a smidge more, the gold just suits my skin tone perfectly.

IMG_4035

These are the best damn highlighters I have come across in a lonnnng time.  The texture is unlike anything I’ve ever really used. At first swatch, you could be fooled into thinking that these powders are really a soft velvety cream. But, in fact, they are a very unique feeling powder. They almost feel cool and wet in the pan. While they appear super shimmery and pigmented, the finish isn’t at all glittery or chunky. They add the most beautifully understated metallic sheen to the highpoints of your face. Somehow they give the skin that wet look without highlighting any texture.

Top to bottom – Subtle Sunrise and Delicate Dew

I like to apply these duos by tapping the powder on my cheekbones and blending out with a brush.  I haven’t had a whole lot of luck applying the powders with a brush so far. You can layer the powder on the top of a liquid illuminator to get a blinding highlight, otherwise, these create the most beautiful lit-from-within effect. I’ve found the shades with pink or bronze undertones work really well as a blush topper as well.

I have been using these duos non-stop, favoring them over my high-end products.  But do you want to know the best part? The duos retail for under $30 each and with two shades in the pan, you can’t go wrong.

You can find the Pixi Glow-y Gossamer Duos at Adorebeauty.com.au

IT Cosmetics CC+Cream Oil Free Matte

If you’ve known me for any length on time, you’d know my undying love for the IT Cosmetics CC+ cream. IT Cosmetics recently dropped a bomb and out of nowhere announced the launch of a brand new Oil Free Matte variation.

I do have oily skin and find in the summer my beloved original CC+ Cream does need a little more powdering to get me through the day and can get a little tacky.  But otherwise, the formula works well. However, I have heard some other babes with oily skin have struggled with the formula not lasting, and those pesky oils start to peek through throughout the day.

This new pore-minimising formula has gotten me a little excited. Let’s just hope it is just as incredible as the original, and that it works even better for those who have struggled with the formula in the past.

IMG_3676

What is the CC+ Oil Free Matte?

Developed with plastic surgeons, Your Skin But Better CC+ Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40 delivers color-correcting full coverage, anti-aging skincare and SPF 40 broad-spectrum physical sunscreen—all with a poreless, natural-looking matte finish that lasts! This multitasking, complexion-perfecting breakthrough instantly camouflages skin imperfections including dark spots without creasing or cracking and is clinically tested to reduce shine and control oil for up to 12 hours. It’s also infused with charcoal to detoxify, colloidal clay to absorb oil and tea tree extract to combat blemishes—plus, an advanced anti-aging serum made of hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants. You’ll see powerful results instantly and more dramatic results over time

This formula will also be available in 12 shades. It is housed in the same squeezy tube with a pump but in a beautiful blue shade. Sounds incredible, right?

How does the CC+ Oil Free Matte perform?

The foundation applied beautifully. I used a damp beauty blender which allowed the formula to really melt and press into the skin, leaving me with a really natural and even coverage. My initial impression is that it isn’t completely matte – more of a velvet type of finish. My skin feels soft and hydrated without being sticky.  It looks luminous without looking oily, and it feels matte without looking really flat and cakey.  It doesn’t feel tacky nor does it transfer.

For the sake of a review, I didn’t set the foundation (other than a light dusting under the eyes to prevent creasing). I also refrained from using anything glowy and stuck with a matte blush.

How does the Oil Free Matte compare to the original CC+?

While they are very similar, the result is quite different. Firstly, the biggest difference off the bat is the SPF. This matte bad boy has a level of 40 whereas the original boasts a massive 50+ SPF.  The matte version stayed quite luminous and healthy while still controlling any oil. I found that I didn’t need to set the foundation, nor did I feel the need to powder throughout the day.  I also felt that there may be just a touch more coverage than the original. The foundation lasted much better for me than the original but I did find that it can cling to any dry flaky areas of the skin.

In the photo above, I have the Matte on the left side of my face and the original on the right.  The colours are slightly different so it may look a little funny ( I have Light in the Original and Light Medium in the matte). But you can see the difference in the finish between both formulas. After 8 hours my skin was noticeably less shiny on the matte side.

My thoughts

I simply adore the finish. As much as my skin needs a matte foundation, I still love something that gives my skin a little bit of life and radiance. This foundation really gives me the best of both worlds. I feel like IT Cosmetics have really nailed the natural finish. The IT Cosmetics CC+ Oil Free Matte mattified my skin and controlled oil without leaving me with an unflattering flat matte finish.

I found that you can really change the results with what primer you used. A matte primer will boost the longevity of the foundation while really absorbing any oil. Using something more hydrating and illuminating will give you a fresher result, but in turn, affecting the oil control and longevity.

I really love both formulas and feel I will be reaching for this new guy more once the weather warms up. It will allow me to still reap the skincare benefits of the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream, while lasting me longer and needing less powdering throughout the day.

If you’re someone who really loves a true matte finish, the Oil Free CC+ cream alone isn’t going to get you there. But with the use of a mattifying primer and a mattifying setting powder, you may just get the result you are after. However, If you teeter more on the normal or dry end of the spectrum, I think the original will still be your best pick, if not even the illuminating version.

Available now in the US. Otherwise, us Aussies will need to wait until it drops into Sephora.com.au late September.

Will you be adding the brand new IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil Free Matte to your cart?

A Guide To Smashbox Primers

The words Smashbox and primers are synonymous with each other.  Smashbox make some bloody brilliant products, but they do primers well, award-winningly well. With such a large offering, it can be tricky to work out which primer is best for you. So, I’ve put together a guide highlighting the key factors with each primer, and which skin types I think they are best suited for.

Photo Finish Foundation Primer  – $52

The OG. The one that started it all.

SmashBox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer is your no BS, all in one basic primer.

  • Clear gel-like formula that feels like velvet on the skin
  • Creates a smooth base for foundation
  • Blurs pores and fine lines
  • Lightweight

Best for – Most skin types (it does have a silicone feel), but probably not the best choice for oily skinned gals as it doesn’t keep oils at bay. Great for everyday wear to create a barrier between the skin and foundation.

Also available with SPF20

IMG_1323

Photo Finish Mattifying Primer Stick -$46

As you’d expect from the name, this primer stick is marketed towards oily babes.

  • Super easy to apply
  • Glides on the skin
  • Prevents oil and shine
  • Extends the longevity of your foundation
  • Can also be used on top of makeup to control shine

Best for – Oily or combo skin types. This stick works really well for multi-priming, spread over the t-zone.  If you want something luminous and glowy, steer away from this one.

IMG_1312

Photo Finish Primerizer  – $61

One of Smashbox’s newest and most innovative primers. This little baby is a moisturiser/primer hybrid.

  • Non-greasy and fast absorbing
  • 24-hour hydration
  • Weightless
  • Demi-matte finish, but still controls oils
  • Can be used in lieu of moisturiser

Best for – All skin types. Great all rounder that hydrates without making skin oily while still controlling shine throughout the day. Gives the skin a gorgeous healthy looking finish. It won’t, however, give you a true matte finish, if that is what you are after.

IMG_1308

Photo Finish Foundation Primer Radiance – $57

This primer is based on Smashbox’s original Foundation Primer but with the added bonus of radiance.

  • Glow-boosting
  • Blurs imperfections
  • Contains added hyaluronic Acid and Shea Butter for Hydration
  • Smooths skin

Best for – Babes looking for a little more luminosity. Great from a boost of hydration if your skin is feeling a little dry. Also works well under a matte foundation to make your skin look glowy, while still preventing the dreaded shine-factor.

IMG_1314

Photo Finish Primer Adjust – $ 57

Another primer that is built from the Foundation Primer, but this one promises to disguise uneven skin tone and redness.

  • Addresses redness and uneven skin tones
  • Smooths skin
  • Contains antioxidants and vitamin to nourish the skin
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines

Best for – Red-faces and gals with an uneven skin tone. Same as the original, probably not the best for super oily babes,

Photo Finish Pore Minimising Primer – $57

This baby again is your OG Foundation Primer, but with the added benefits of diminishing the appearance of those pesky little pores.

  • Visibly reduces the appearance of pores
  • Keeps skin shine free
  • Sweat and humidity resistant
  • Flawless, smooth finish

Best for – Oily babes, this little purple guy is for you. Instantly disguising pores and mattifies while keeping you matte all day.  Not great on dry/flaky skin.

IMG_1310

Photo Finish Primer Water  – $46

This is such an innovative product, allowing you to prime in a flash!

  • Suuuuuper lightweight
  • Very versatile
  • Refreshes and hydrates tired skin
  • Can also be used as a setting spray

Best for – Busy babes that need to apply makeup in a pinch. It is a great handbag addition to refresh your complexion through the day.  The lightweight formula works well for oily skin, but may not be hydrating enough for dry skin types.

The Primer Water is also available in 3 fun new fragrances –

  • So-Chill Coconut ($46) – Sweet coconut and vanilla fragrance for refreshing the complexion
  • Serene Greens ($46) – Fresh cucumber and melon scent which calms and hydrates
  • Centering Citrus ($46) –  Orange and Grapefruit fragrance for dull dry skin

Facetune_06-06-2018-15-03-25

Photo Finish Primer Oil – $61

A heavy duty hydrating primer for dry skin.

  • Contains 15 oils to nourish the skin
  • Creates a youthful, dewy base
  • Adds radiance
  • Also works as a skincare product

Best for – No surprises here but if you’re oily you probably don’t wanna drench your skin in oil before makeup application. Absolutely ideal for dry skin types or normal babes who want a big dose of hydration and dew.

IMG_1318

Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light – $52

A weightless version of the original targeted more towards oily skin

  • Extends the wear time of makeup
  • Oil-control
  • Disguises the look of imperfections
  • Aqua based

Best for – All skin types that want a no BS primer that smooths and increases the longevity of makeup

IMG_1316

Photo Finish Even Skin Tone Primer – $57

This primer is best for counteracting darkness and uneven skin tone.

  • Used for addressing dark patches and sallow skin
  • Brightens the skin without luminosity
  • Creates a smooth base
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines

Best for – All skin types but great for mature skin, that need brightening, hydrating and disguising fine lines and wrinkles.

I find that you can also mix and match these primers to multi-prime by addressing different concerns in one go without any balling up under foundation.

All of the Smashbox range is available at Mecca Maxima.

(Just a note –  Unlike most of my other blog posts, I haven’t personally rigorously trialed all of these primers. Whilst I have used some, this guide is based on reviews and product information provided by Smashbox, in addition to personal experience)

Why You Need IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

Heard all the hype? Wondered what is so good about the IT Cosmtetics CC+ Cream? Click to find out.

I am sure you’ve seen people rave over the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream, and you’ve probably wondered what’s so good about it.  Well, I’m going to tell you why it deserves a place in your daily makeup routine.

IMG_6718

Great coverage. Don’t be fooled by the CC cream label, this isn’t a sheer colour corrector – not even close. The coverage is really good. It hides any imperfections while evening out your skin tone in a flash. The result is a beautiful natural looking base, with a velvety finish that allows you to look polished and awake, without any caking or masking.
It doesn’t feel like your wearing makeup. Although the coverage is bang on, it actually doesn’t feel like you are wearing any makeup. It is lightweight, non-sticky and doesn’t transfer. The foundation also doesn’t crease or crack throughout the day. Which means less time is needed to retouch and more time for activities.
You get the benefits of anti-aging skincare.  IT Cosmetics products are created in such a way that it is a skincare treatment first, and a colour cosmetic second. By focusing on soothing, treating and hydrating means that your skin will be benefiting daily from nourishing ingredients instead of your pores being blocked, and your skin getting irritated.  So, essentially you are wearing a nourishing moisturiser and anti-aging treatment with a dose of pigment added at the end to cover and conceal.  This specific formula contains collagen, peptides,  hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and vitamins A,B,C and E.
It contains 50+ SPF.  Being in Australia especially, this is an absolute must in your daily foundation. The biggest anti-ageing treatment is prevention. What better prevention is there than a 50+ SPF that is automatically built into your foundation. The other upside of this is that the SPF is completely physical which means you’ll get absolutely no flashback. Between that and the formula being sweat and water resistant, you will be prepared for anything.
It works on all skin types. I don’t what sorcery has gone into the CC+ cream but along with all those benefits listed above, it works on every skin type. Whether you are dry or oily, you can make this foundation work for you. Depending on what kind of finish you prefer, you might have to set it with powder for something more matte. Otherwise dry, combo and oily babes alike will swoon over this baby.

IMG_6719

I know that the shade range is limited, but I have been assured by the IT Cosmetics educator, that any skin tone will be able to make the shades work. Plus, a little birdy told me that new shades will be released in September.

Have I convinced you yet? It is in stock now but be quick, this bad boy sells out fast. And, believe me, once it is sold out Australia-wide it takes foreverrrr for a restock.

My Top Pixi Picks

Pixi by Petra is an iconic international brand which boasts many crowd favorites in both skincare and makeup within their range – a feat not achieved by many.

Pixi is an affordable brand that is easily recognised by its pale green packaging, but don’t be fooled by their soft, whimsical branding, their skincare really packs a punch and the colour cosmetics are of the highest quality.

And while I have tried quite a number of Pixi products, I’ve hardly even made a dent in the huge range, but these are my picks so far…

Glow Tonic

Surely this peachy coloured wonder needs no introduction. Loved by professionals and consumers alike, this cult classic is a staple in bathrooms worldwide. This Glycolic based toner refreshes, renews, balances and soothes the skin leaving it brighter and more refined. This magic juice is suitable for most skin tones and is even gentle enough to use on sensitive skin. For me personally, Glow Tonic has really helped ease congestion through my t-zone, it has lifted pigmentation and makes my complexion plump and bright.

IMG_8586

Milky Hydrating Mist

This is such a lovely hydrating mist. I use this under makeup, on-top of makeup and on bare skin throughout the day, to give my skin a little drink. I particularly like using the Hydrating mist under sheet masks and clay masks to give my skin just that little bit of extra moisture.  It is so lightweight and absorbs into my skin really quickly. It smells lovely but it isn’t overpowering and I find that the mist is super fine and evenly delivers the product which is a huge bonus.

Facetune_05-06-2018-19-28-20

Rose Flash Balm

This sweet smelling balm is an interesting product. It is marketed as an ‘instant skin booster’ and can be used as a primer, mask or moisturiser. It targets lack-lustre skin, instantly reviving, hydrating and ridding the skin of signs of fatigue. I have been using this as a primer and I have fallen head over heels in love. The balm sinks into my skin effortlessly and leaves it oh-so happy.  Makeup applies smoothly over the top and it really seems to make my complexion glow with health.

MatteLast Liquid Lipsticks

The Pixi Mattelast lipsticks are really lovely. They have a light consistency that dries down so comfortably that you’ll forget you are wearing any lipsticks. They don’t dry out my lips and the range of beautiful rosey hued nudes are just my jam. Cannot fault these little babies, and they are one of my favourite daily lip products. Matte Beige is my go-to.

IMG_8584

Palettes

As far as Pixi’s palettes go, it really is difficult to choose between their huge collection of high-quality eye and face palettes. Having recently collaborated with a handful of influencers (#pixipretties), they have released a number of swoon-worthy products. My picks would be the Weylie Hoang eyeshadows and the Cafe Con Dolce multi-use palette. Both palettes boast beautiful formulas and shades but have a multitude of uses. The Weylie eye palette is ideal for travel, as it is small and compact. It contains mid and deep warm shades as well as a few light shimmery shades for good measure. Cafe Con Dolce is a beautiful palette full of soft luminous shades that can be used on the eye or cheek. This cream to powder formula is heavenly and can be diffuser out or built up for a super glow finish.

Have you jumped on the Pixi by Petra bandwagon? What are your faves?
