Let’s talk trash #3

Hi friends,

I haven’t done an empties post in many moons, so it is safe to say that I have a lot.  I’ll only stick to the products worth mentioning (good and bad)

Skinstitut – L-lactic Cleanser

I think I have spoken about this before in a favourites blog, but it deserves another mention.  This cleanser is so effective but doesn’t dry out my skin or leave it feeling tight. L-Lactic Cleanser actually hydrates and nourishes the skin, while working on congested areas and improving the skins integrity. Over time my skin looks much more healthy and even has a bit of a glow about it.  I have already repurchased this cleanser and will again and again.

Dr Bronners Pure Castle Liquid Soap – Tea Tree

This soap is incredible – It is completely organic, plus the ingredients are ethically sourced and fair trade certified. That alone is impressive, however this humble liquid soap is impressive for so many other reasons, upwards of 18 to be exact. Dr Bronners can be used to wash almost anything. I use it on the floors, when I clean the bathroom, if I’ve ran out of body wash, to wash my fruit and veggies even. But what I love it best for is cleaning my make-up brushes. My brushes come up sparkling! Even those beautiful white Zoeva brushes that are always stained orange and red, they come up as good as new and with very little effort.  I’ve already gone through 2 of these and there are 2 brand new Lavender  and Rose scented bottles waiting for me. I highly recommend.

Trefiel Anti Aging Lace Hydromask

This has got to be the most beautiful sheet mask I have ever used – And silly me forgot to take a photo! The mask looks like black lace on your skin, much better than those scary white cloth sheet masks.  Trefiel Lace Hydromask boasts premium ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E for hydration, skin repair and free-radical protection. The ingredients are also plant-based and GMO free, meaning they contain no nasty chemicals and won’t harm your precious skin.  The mask feels cool and soothing on the skin and is much easier to wear than other sheet masks. This mask is really lovely to use, I will definitely re-purchase (Sorry again for not taking a picture of the beautiful lace detail)

Skinny Tan – Body Mousse

If you have been reading for a while you know that I h ave never been much of  a fake tanner, until recently. This little bottle of sunshine changed all of that. This tanner is so easy to use with beautiful natural-streak free results. Never had I used a product with such a natural bronze colour, without being too orange. The mousse is so easy to buff in and not-at-all sticky. It does transfer slightly on clothes, but didn’t stain my sheets at all. The scent isn’t offensive, the tan lasts for over a week and wears off evenly.  I have also gotten so many uses out of the one bottle, I am amazed. This little guy has turned me into a weekly tanner.

Antipodes – Aura Manuka Honey Mask

I am sure Aura isn’t a stranger to regular readers of the blog; I adore this mask.  Full of antibacterial properties and intense hydration, this mask is so soothing, nourishing and gets to work on any pesky pimples. This can be left on for 10 minutes, an hour or all night for an especially intense treatment. Aura smells of juicy mandarin and creamy vanilla, and it spreads so easily all over the face. It really is a pleasure to use. I like to massage the mask into my skin using a jade roller for better absorption. I am truly sad that my tube has run out, but with so many other hyrdration masks waiting to get on my face, it’s only fair I don’t re-purchase just yet….. but it will certainly make its way back into my stash in no time. I would like 1x life supply of Aura please, skincare gods.

Bioderma Sebium AKN Purifying Corrective Care Fluid.

I usually love Bioderma – They have innovative products that are of such a high-quality, I am often surprised that they are sold in Priceline. But this little guy, let me down. This Corrective Care Fluid states that it is a purifying, smoothing cream that hydrates and eliminates blemishes and blackheads. For me, none of these statements ring true. The fluid is very thin, I find no moisturising benefits for my skin. I used the whole tube, which lasted quite a while,  but never noticed a difference in blackheads, smoothing or purifying. I had read that some people used this as a primer, but when I tried this, the product just seemed to ball up under my foundation. I sadly found nothing positive about this. But that is not to say that it won’t work for anybody else. My love for Bioderma will forever remain.

Loreal Hair Expertise EverStrong Strengthening and Repairing Mask Treatment

This was another disappointing product  for me. I use a hair treatment mask every time I wash my hair; I am all about that soft, hydrated hair life. I cannot function if my hair is knotty or dry.  I was looking forward to this treatment, it is marketed as Loreal’s most gentle treatment and is 100% sulphate-free. But unfortunately it was a little too gentle, in that it did nothing for me. The mask is fairly runny but has a beautiful fresh scent. It applies effortlessly and feels lovely in the hair. However, after washing and drying my hair was dry and felt similar to straw. I played around with the amount I used but kept getting similar results. I won’t be purchasing this guy again.

Speak soon lovers,

The Jade Roller

This little miracle beauty tool has completely changed my skin and skincare regime. No wonder it has been used in China for centuries.  I have been using this for nearly 8 weeks now and I cannot live without it, I even took it travelling with me recently. The roller does look a little strange, but don’t let that put you off. The roller has two pieces of smooth jade that roll over your skin. Jade is a beautiful gemstone, used widely in eastern jewellery, ornaments and medicine. Jade is believed to have healing powers as well as metaphysical properties. I have always been attracted to the beauty of crystals and minerals and I have a fairly extensive collection. So this tool perfectly combines my love of crystals and cosmetics.

So what does the jade roller do? It is said to improve circulation and skin tone, improve elasticity, encourage lymphatic drainage, remove toxins, reduce puffiness and wrinkles, and reduce redness. The use of the roller with skincare products also pushes in the skincare so that you skin gets the full benefits.  To use the roller you simply roll it outwards and upwards with a small amount of pressure. The jade pieces are cool to touch but I like to keep my roller in the freezer for more of a cooling effect, which also seems to tighten my pores. I use it to push in my moisturisers, serums and even to massage in hydrating masks. Products seems to be absorbed quicker, under eye bags and gray tones are immediately lifted and any redness just disappears. After use my skin looks plump and glowy. It is seriously a miracle worker. Just using this, regardless of the benefits is such a pleasure. It makes me feel like I am getting a facial, even while sitting at home binge watching Netflix.  And the best thing about it? It costs peanuts. I bought mine off Ebay for around $5.

This has been my first introduction to dermal rollers and can’t wait to experiment more. Have you used a roller before?

Until next time,

Hello June! It is officially Winter – but boy it doesn’t feel like it. The evenings and morning are finally starting to get cooler but the days are still fairly warm… not that I am complaining. Let’s dive into the products I have been reaching for this month.

I was so lucky to be sent a few items from Skinstitut. I had heard so many great things about the brand, but never had the opportunity to try them. I have been using the L-Lactic cleanser, Glycolic Scrub and Even Blend serum for just over a month and I have really been loving them. The cleanser is the perfect addition to my shower. It is gentle yet effective. It removes makeup, exfoliates and refines my skin. My face isn’t left feeling tight or dry afterwards. The scrub is also a welcomed addition to my shower, I have been using this every other day for extra exfoliation. It isn’t too gritty, too creamy or too abrasive, it’s the perfect formula. I love exfoliators and this one really measures up. My skin feels soft, clean and fresh. Winner. The Even Blend Serum is thin and spreads out well. It sinks straight into the skin and is a great boost of moisture while targeting pigmentation. So far I have noticed a slight difference in dark spots and pigmentation, and can’t wait to see the results after more use.

Jade Roller

I am completely obsessed with this little beauty tool. It perfectly combines my love of crystals and cosmetics. The jade roller is used to combat redness, improve skin tone ,encourage lymphatic drainage, eliminate excess toxins and puffy skin all while pushing in skincare, so that you experience the full benefits of the products. Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong. It definitely delivers. Stay tuned for a detailed blog post about the Jade Roller later in the week.

Scout Cosmetics

I was lucky enough to receive a couple of goodies from Scout Cosmetics. This is a brand that I haven’t previously had any experience with.  Scout is a mineral make-up brand that also created a few skincare items and nail polish. I received the Brow Defining Dust and the Organic Pomegranate and White Tea Rejuvenating Creme. So far I have been reaching for the Brow Defining Dust daily. It is so easy and effortless to apply. Not only does it thicken and define my brows, but it makes them look super natural – Not overdrawn at all. The staying power is great and I have been loving the colour.  I love that it is Australian made, natural and cruelty free. I have only used the Rejuvenating Creme a couple of times, but it is just lovely. It is absolutely perfect for under make up. It is light and sinks into the skin instantly, I can apply my primer and foundation straight away. It leaves my skin hydrated, smooth and fresh. Can’t wait to use this guy a little more.

MooGoo Udder Cream

If you are a regular reader of the blog, you would know that I am pretty damn obsessed with MooGoo. Since the weather has started to turn cold, my skin has really started to suffer. This cream is just perfect. If there was only one moisturiser product that I could use for the rest of my life – It would be this. Not only is it the product that the entire brand was built upon, but it is also a miracle worker. Udder cream works well as a hand cream, body balm, and even a face moisturiser. It sinks in quickly and skin is immediately softer and plumper. Plus it smells so so so good. It is this delicious milky sweet scent that just conjures up feelings and memories of warm baths and snuggly towels. I have about three tubes currently opened and scattered around the house and in my handbag. This is definitely a great addition to your collection and a great introduction to MooGoo.

Weleda – Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash

Another favourite this month has been the Weleda Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash. Firstly the packaging is beautiful and bright – it really stand outs. The body wash is as the name suggests very creamy and hydrating. It lathers up really nicely with this huge burst of a citrus, which is really energizing and uplifting. My skin is left soft, smooth and smelling delicious. Weleda as a brand is only relatively new to me, but I have loved all the products I have used so far. I will be looking into their product range more and trying some other bits and pieces.

Last months favourites seem to be very skincare heavy, but I guess that reflects this time of the year.

Until next time,
