Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon Review

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently dropped a particularly unusual product – a  liquid lipstick in crayon form. Are you as intrigued as me? The concept seems pretty contradictory to me. Available from Sephora Australian, let’s see what these are all about.

Marc Jacobs Beauty recently dropped a particularly unusual product – a  liquid lipstick in crayon form. Are you as intrigued as me? The concept seems pretty contradictory to me, as crayons are usually sheer, moisturising formulas that can be used one-handed when you’re in a pinch.  Liquid lipsticks, on the other hand, are a whole different ball game, needing precision and concentration to get that highly pigmented, long-lasting formula on the lips.  Always happy to offer up my face and body as a guniea pig for the sake of beauty innovation, I had to give these a try.

What Marc Jacobs says –

Rewrite the (lipstick) rules: Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon is everything you love about a liquid lipstick in the form of a creamy crayon. It melts into lips with a lightweight liquid sensation, providing powerful one-swipe colour with bold impact. A dose of innovative “ghost pearl” gives the matte look a dimensional sheen for a never-before-seen finish. The crayon offers total control for effortless application. It’s easier than ever to shape and fill your lips.

I picked up the shades How Rouge!, Flaming-Oh! and Coral Fixation. The shades do swatch like standard matte shades on the hand,  but there is so much more to these incredible colours. Once on the lips, there is this pearlescence, almost chrome sort of shift, that I find really hard to describe. They really are a multidimensional shade that looks very unique and shows up differently in natural and artificial lights.

The formula is ridiculously creamy, so much so, that at first, it is hard to imagine these being very long-lasting. They glide across the lip and deliver a HUGE amount of pigment, while the crayon actually allows a great deal of control and precision. I find it so much easier to get my desired lipline with this method of delivery.  While the formula is creamy and soft on application they do surprisingly dry down to a satin matte finish, without too much transfer. The longevity isn’t as great as your usual liquid lip, but still lasts through food and drink.  The shades are definitely not flat. The ‘ghost pearl’ certainly adds dimension and the most gorgeous sheen and shift to the lips. To say I am impressed is an understatement.

Le Marc Liquid lip Crayon is all my lip product dreams come true. It is this unreal, bold pigment in a creamy, comfortable formula that is easy to apply and lasts really well. It is as if they have picked the all best properties from a liquid lip, traditional lipstick and crayon and mixed them all together into this absolute winner. The formula also seems to leave out all the not-so-great features. I would love to see a bigger shade range with a few more nudes, oranges added into the mix, but that won’t stop me from going HAM and getting my grubby mitts on all 10 shades.  I cannot stress to you enough about how much I adore these little numbers.

You can find these at Sephora.com.au for $38 a pop.

What do you think? Are the Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayons worthy of a spot in your collection?

My top 5 HOLY GRAIL products 2018

Although I have quite a large collection of products, there are ones that I reach for over and over again. Tried and tested, the following 5 products are items that I can’t live without (big call, I know)…

*Drum roll*

  1. Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peels

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it until I am blue in the face, the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Universal Peels have completely changed my skin. I have been absolutely obsessed with these little miracle pads for about 18 months. The patented two-step formula is unlike anything else on the market and it delivers the most effective skin care treatment I have ever used. After using these, my skin is refined, brighter and fresher while my pores look diminished and fine lines reduced. I cannot sing the praises of the Alpha Beta peels enough. I would gladly give up all other skincare products to be able to use these forever… well, these and a touch of moisturiser 😉

2. Fudge Clean Blonde Purple Toning Shampoo

I couldn’t tell you how much tubes of Clean Blonde I have gone through over the years. This shampoo tones my hair like nothing else. Not only that, but it doesn’t dry out my fine hair, nor does it make it dull or frizzy.  I am pretty easy-going when it comes to hair, but one thing I cannot stand is brassy tones, this little mother sorts them out quick smart. My shower is never without this indigo beauty.

3. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light

I call this my facial in a compact. This beautiful powder gives my skin the most stunning natural glow. My skin looks fresh, bright, radiant and just glowing with health. I don’t know how Hourglass do it, but there is some kind of sorcery in this powder. I use a light dusting all over my face as the last step in my makeup routine and the result is an ethereal radiance that needs to be seen to be believed.

4. Becca Under Eye Corrector

I have been raving about this corrector for years now. This glorious little pot rids my undereye area of discolouration, it brightens and refreshes without caking or creasing. I use this every time I apply makeup, and even often when I don’t. You can read more about it here, along with the rest of the Becca Bright Eyes range.

5. Beauty Blender

There are many imitations, but no one has quite replicated the magic that is the Beauty Blender. I refuse to apply my foundation with anything other than my trusty sponge. I find my base looks more seamless, foundation looks natural and there isn’t any threat of cakeface. The Beauty Blender blends out cream products effortlessly and is the perfect tool for baking. I never travel without one and always have plenty of backups on hand. Nothing, I mean nothing, compares to the Beauty Blender.

I would love to hear what your top 5 Holy Grail Products are.

My Top Pixi Picks

Pixi by Petra is an iconic international brand which boasts many crowd favorites in both skincare and makeup within their range – a feat not achieved by many.

Pixi is an affordable brand that is easily recognised by its pale green packaging, but don’t be fooled by their soft, whimsical branding, their skincare really packs a punch and the colour cosmetics are of the highest quality.

And while I have tried quite a number of Pixi products, I’ve hardly even made a dent in the huge range, but these are my picks so far…

Glow Tonic

Surely this peachy coloured wonder needs no introduction. Loved by professionals and consumers alike, this cult classic is a staple in bathrooms worldwide. This Glycolic based toner refreshes, renews, balances and soothes the skin leaving it brighter and more refined. This magic juice is suitable for most skin tones and is even gentle enough to use on sensitive skin. For me personally, Glow Tonic has really helped ease congestion through my t-zone, it has lifted pigmentation and makes my complexion plump and bright.

Milky Hydrating Mist

This is such a lovely hydrating mist. I use this under makeup, on-top of makeup and on bare skin throughout the day, to give my skin a little drink. I particularly like using the Hydrating mist under sheet masks and clay masks to give my skin just that little bit of extra moisture.  It is so lightweight and absorbs into my skin really quickly. It smells lovely but it isn’t overpowering and I find that the mist is super fine and evenly delivers the product which is a huge bonus.

Facetune_05-06-2018-19-28-20

Rose Flash Balm

This sweet smelling balm is an interesting product. It is marketed as an ‘instant skin booster’ and can be used as a primer, mask or moisturiser. It targets lack-lustre skin, instantly reviving, hydrating and ridding the skin of signs of fatigue. I have been using this as a primer and I have fallen head over heels in love. The balm sinks into my skin effortlessly and leaves it oh-so happy.  Makeup applies smoothly over the top and it really seems to make my complexion glow with health.

MatteLast Liquid Lipsticks

The Pixi Mattelast lipsticks are really lovely. They have a light consistency that dries down so comfortably that you’ll forget you are wearing any lipsticks. They don’t dry out my lips and the range of beautiful rosey hued nudes are just my jam. Cannot fault these little babies, and they are one of my favourite daily lip products. Matte Beige is my go-to.

IMG_8584

Palettes

As far as Pixi’s palettes go, it really is difficult to choose between their huge collection of high-quality eye and face palettes. Having recently collaborated with a handful of influencers (#pixipretties), they have released a number of swoon-worthy products. My picks would be the Weylie Hoang eyeshadows and the Cafe Con Dolce multi-use palette. Both palettes boast beautiful formulas and shades but have a multitude of uses. The Weylie eye palette is ideal for travel, as it is small and compact. It contains mid and deep warm shades as well as a few light shimmery shades for good measure. Cafe Con Dolce is a beautiful palette full of soft luminous shades that can be used on the eye or cheek. This cream to powder formula is heavenly and can be diffuser out or built up for a super glow finish.

Have you jumped on the Pixi by Petra bandwagon? What are your faves?

Elucent Skincare Review #2

You may recall a blog post I published late last year reviewing some Elucent skincare goodies after 4 weeks of use. Well, here we are back again after another 4-week stint with Elucent with a few new products to address some new and pre-existing concerns.  This time around I am just as concerned about pigmentation and uneven skin tone that is hanging around since being pregnant. I am also suffering from a bit of a dull complexion, thanks to the fatigue of motherhood.

This time I was recommended the Exfoliating Cleanser from the Whitening range, as well as the same Whitening Day and Night moisturisers that I have previously reviewed. I also trialed the Whitening Spot Treatment and the Anti-Aging Body Moisturiser with 12% AHA’s.

“Elucent Whitening uses a multifunctional skin brightening technology to help restore the complexion. Each skin brightening ingredient in Elucent Whitening has been carefully selected for its ability to help brighten the skin and even out skin tone. By using a combination of ingredients, each product works synergistically with the skin to help restore light and brightness for a more even complexion.”

Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser

The consistency of this cleanser is lovely. It is a light, slightly gritty milky type of cleanser that lathers up just enough to give your skin a good clean. My skin does feel refreshed and brighter after use.  I did, however, find that the exfoliating properties weren’t quite enough for me. I didn’t feel like my skin was getting the exfoliation I desired, especially through my oily and congested T-zone. That’s not to say this is a sub-par cleanser at all, it is really lovely and light. But it is just not what I generally look for in a cleanser. If you like a super gentle exfoliator, this would be a great option for you. I’ve also got to give it bonus points for the use of a natural exfoliator instead of harmful microbeads.

Having trialed both the Whitening and Anti-Ageing cleanser, my preferred product would be the Anti-Ageing Cleanser, based on my particular skin type and concerns.

Elucent Whitening Spot Corrector

This little guy is used to give a more targeted treatment to areas of concern. I have a fair bit of pigmentation under both eyes, on my cheeks and quite a bit on my upper lip. So, I used the Spot Corrector on these areas to try and lift the pigmentation. I found the formula of the Spot Corrector very light and easily absorbed into the skin. It sits under moisturiser well and doesn’t seem to ball up which a lot of treatments tend to.

Elucent Whitening Day CreamWhitening Night Cream

Having used both of these products twice before, I knew what to expect. My thoughts on both of these products remain the same. They are effective at hydrating and nourishing the skin, and as for treating pigmentation, I found a slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation, but more on that later. You can find my detailed thoughts on these products here.

IMG_4243

Elucent Anti-Ageing Body Moisturiser

Surely by now, you know how much I love AHA’s, but strangely enough, I have never used a body moisturiser containing them, so I was pretty excited to give this a go. It makes sense to include a chemical exfoliator in a body product as it will get to work sloughing away dead skin cells while also hydrating the skin – perfect.  This moisturiser is lovely and lightweight and absorbs relatively quickly. Granted I didn’t use this product religiously, I just don’t have the time or energy at the moment to grease up my whole body, unfortunately. But the times I have used this I loved the end result, my skin was soft, smooth and flake-free. I will continue to use this when I get the chance.

Overall I found this range to be lovely and gentle. It did brighten my complexion and make my skin look fresh. It made me look like I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed even on days where I only had a couple of hours of sleep (#mumlyf). However, I only noticed a very slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation. At this stage, after trying many different products to address this concern, I feel that only professional and in-salon treatments will lift it due to the nature of the pigmentation. I do believe that with prolonged use on mild pigmentation that this range would be most effective at treating the skin without the irritation of other similar products.

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation Review

The relatively new Bobbi Brown Weightless Foundation landed on my desk at On A Beauty Bender HQ last week, eager to find a new daily foundation, I put it straight to the test. With claims of light-weight consistency,  a comfort matte finish, long-lasting coverage and an SPF15, this really seems to be a good contender.

Get your complexion covered all day with this 16-hour wear, buildable medium to full coverage foundation with a natural, multidimensional matte finish that’s comfortable, breathable, and weightless.

IMG_6708

I simply adore the simple glass bottle. It’s a great size that fits into my drawers and has a pump style delivery which is my preferred method. Bobbi Brown do understated class so damn well.

The foundation applies well, it is really workable and can be applied with a sponge, brush or even fingers. I prefer using a Beauty Blender to ensure an even, streak-free and super natural looking finish, I found that a brush did tend to make it look a little streaky and thick.  The coverage can be built up with ease without the threat of the dreaded cakeface.

I found the formula to be creamy, but light like a gel, which seems contradictory but somehow works. I love that with only a light layer, the foundation can even-out skintone and cover blemishes without looking like a mask, but rather acting like a second skin which allows your own skin to shine through – cute little freckles and all.  There is no clinging to dry patches, nor is it too matte that it enhances any texture on my face. Plus, it does a really good job of controlling my oil during the day. As expected my natural oils start to penetrate slightly half-way through the day, but we definitely don’t get to oil-slick territory.

IMG_6701

The wear time is great, and I think this is its only slight downfall. It claims to wear for 16-hours – I can attest to about 12 hours. It definitely does last, but I noticed quite a bit of fading after about 7 hours. The foundation does start to break up a little around my nose and chin, revealing a little bit of redness, but nothing that couldn’t be touched up. So, all-in-all it performs really well.

IMG_6978

Another plus is the shade range. It boasts 30 shades with different undertones, which gives you a fairly decent amount of options to find the right shade for your complexion.

Overall, I am pretty well sold on the Bobbi Brown Skin long-Wear Weightless Foundation. It is definitely light-weight and natural looking but it also covers up the bad bits, smoothes and evens out skin tone all while lasting you most of the day and offering a small amount of SPF. It really ticks the boxes for my current needs and will be a regular on my face.  I have definitely found a new daily wear foundation in this little beauty. I would imagine that it would work well for most skin types and would perhaps wear longer on you gals with not so oily skin.

IMG_6702

Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation retails for $70 and can be purchased directly from the BB website or from Mecca Maxima and department stores.

Does this little number tickle your fancy?
