IT Cosmetics CC+Cream Oil Free Matte

If you’ve known me for any length on time, you’d know my undying love for the IT Cosmetics CC+ cream. IT Cosmetics recently dropped a bomb and out of nowhere announced the launch of a brand new Oil Free Matte variation.

I do have oily skin and find in the summer my beloved original CC+ Cream does need a little more powdering to get me through the day and can get a little tacky.  But otherwise, the formula works well. However, I have heard some other babes with oily skin have struggled with the formula not lasting, and those pesky oils start to peek through throughout the day.

This new pore-minimising formula has gotten me a little excited. Let’s just hope it is just as incredible as the original, and that it works even better for those who have struggled with the formula in the past.

What is the CC+ Oil Free Matte?

Developed with plastic surgeons, Your Skin But Better CC+ Oil-Free Matte with SPF 40 delivers color-correcting full coverage, anti-aging skincare and SPF 40 broad-spectrum physical sunscreen—all with a poreless, natural-looking matte finish that lasts! This multitasking, complexion-perfecting breakthrough instantly camouflages skin imperfections including dark spots without creasing or cracking and is clinically tested to reduce shine and control oil for up to 12 hours. It’s also infused with charcoal to detoxify, colloidal clay to absorb oil and tea tree extract to combat blemishes—plus, an advanced anti-aging serum made of hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants. You’ll see powerful results instantly and more dramatic results over time

This formula will also be available in 12 shades. It is housed in the same squeezy tube with a pump but in a beautiful blue shade. Sounds incredible, right?

How does the CC+ Oil Free Matte perform?

The foundation applied beautifully. I used a damp beauty blender which allowed the formula to really melt and press into the skin, leaving me with a really natural and even coverage. My initial impression is that it isn’t completely matte – more of a velvet type of finish. My skin feels soft and hydrated without being sticky.  It looks luminous without looking oily, and it feels matte without looking really flat and cakey.  It doesn’t feel tacky nor does it transfer.

For the sake of a review, I didn’t set the foundation (other than a light dusting under the eyes to prevent creasing). I also refrained from using anything glowy and stuck with a matte blush.

How does the Oil Free Matte compare to the original CC+?

While they are very similar, the result is quite different. Firstly, the biggest difference off the bat is the SPF. This matte bad boy has a level of 40 whereas the original boasts a massive 50+ SPF.  The matte version stayed quite luminous and healthy while still controlling any oil. I found that I didn’t need to set the foundation, nor did I feel the need to powder throughout the day.  I also felt that there may be just a touch more coverage than the original. The foundation lasted much better for me than the original but I did find that it can cling to any dry flaky areas of the skin.

In the photo above, I have the Matte on the left side of my face and the original on the right.  The colours are slightly different so it may look a little funny ( I have Light in the Original and Light Medium in the matte). But you can see the difference in the finish between both formulas. After 8 hours my skin was noticeably less shiny on the matte side.

My thoughts

I simply adore the finish. As much as my skin needs a matte foundation, I still love something that gives my skin a little bit of life and radiance. This foundation really gives me the best of both worlds. I feel like IT Cosmetics have really nailed the natural finish. The IT Cosmetics CC+ Oil Free Matte mattified my skin and controlled oil without leaving me with an unflattering flat matte finish.

I found that you can really change the results with what primer you used. A matte primer will boost the longevity of the foundation while really absorbing any oil. Using something more hydrating and illuminating will give you a fresher result, but in turn, affecting the oil control and longevity.

I really love both formulas and feel I will be reaching for this new guy more once the weather warms up. It will allow me to still reap the skincare benefits of the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream, while lasting me longer and needing less powdering throughout the day.

If you’re someone who really loves a true matte finish, the Oil Free CC+ cream alone isn’t going to get you there. But with the use of a mattifying primer and a mattifying setting powder, you may just get the result you are after. However, If you teeter more on the normal or dry end of the spectrum, I think the original will still be your best pick, if not even the illuminating version.

Available now in the US. Otherwise, us Aussies will need to wait until it drops into Sephora.com.au late September.

Will you be adding the brand new IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil Free Matte to your cart?

My Teeth Whitening Experience with Premiere Smiles

I am someone who enjoys 2+ coffees a day and is partial to a couple of glasses of red – Don’t judge, #mumlyf is bloody hard. But because of this, my pearly whites can be a little less than pearly and little more on the stained side of the spectrum. I had been looking into getting my teeth whitened for quite a while, but I wasn’t willing to shell out the mountain of cash for my dentist to do it. I use whitening toothpaste and I have tried the at-home treatments with the little lights that are always so hyped up on Instagram. But in all honesty, I haven’t been able to get the results I desire.

The procedure

The lovely Jess came all the way to Wollongong to take care of my little toothy pegs.  With all her gear in hand, Jess came into my lounge room and was set up in under 5 minutes.  Jess explained the straightforward process of applying gel and sitting back for 20 minutes, 5 times (alternating with the lights), which will leave my teeth sparkling. Really simple and straightforward. The actual application of the gel takes a minute and the rest of the time you are reclined back watching TV.

You may not look all that glamourous (who does with their mouth prised open?) but at least you’re in the comfort of your own home. Jess was super laidback and wasn’t worried at all when I needed to tend to Louie a few times when he became restless.  There was no sensitivity and the process did not hurt in the slightest. It was actually super relaxing to be forced to lay back for two hours instead of buzzing around doing a million things at once.

Admittedly, the aftercare is a bit of a pain – You need to eat white foods for about 48 hours afterward as the procedure opens up the pores in your teeth and they are more susceptible to staining. However, in the scheme of things, it is well worth the result.

Jess recommended two sessions for me to ensure the best result. While the first session did lift some stains, it didn’t quite get the job done. After the second session, my teeth really sparkled. I also have a touch-up pen to use at home. This allows me to get an even brighter white, or to maintain my results.

My thoughts

Firstly, the whole fact that Premiere Smiles is an in-home service is amazing. Absolutely ideal for mums with kids at home. The idea of laying back in my trackies and slippers, watching Netflix while getting some pampering done is incredible. A ridiculously practical idea.

The results speak for themselves. I think this is such a good option for people who want teeth whitening that works, but don’t want to spend a bomb at the dentist.  I have already recommended the service to my own family and friends. I definitely think it is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for a sparkly smile.

My Top 5 Masks of the Moment

If you follow me on the ‘gram, you’d be no stranger to seeing this mug covered in a mask.  As a huge mask lover, I am always playing with new products. Here is a list of masks that have been getting a work out lately.

IMG_2259.JPG

1. Go-To Sheet Masks

The best sheet mask I’ve ever used.

What else can I say about these beauties? Deeply hydrating and nourishing. They smell absolutely incredible and leave your cute little face healthy, plump and glowy.  Best of all they work out to be $7.50 a pop.

IMG_1470.JPG

2. Ole Henriksen Cold Plunge Pore Mask

You may have seen this blue beauty doing the rounds lately and with good reason. This is a mask like no other I’ve ever used. Firstly the colour is gorgeous and you’ll be snapping selfies of yourself within minutes of putting it on. But more importantly, it works really well.  Cold Plunge contains both AHAs and BHA so it is going to smooth that skin like nobody’s business.  It detoxifies, mattifies, smoothes and cools all while being a little bit of fun to use. Your face feels cool and tingly for a while after use so I can imagine living in this in the warmer months.

3. Murad Hydro Glow Aqua Peel

I can always trust Dr. Murad to come up with the goods. This fun 2-step mask is a double whammy.  It refines and resurfaces the skin while adding a big boost of hydration – perfect event prep. Super easy to use and really great results.

Facetune_13-07-2018-15-44-09.JPG

4. Philosophy Purity Pore Extractor Exfoliating Clay Mask

This scrub/mask hybrid is great at treating those pesky little pores. When my skin is feeling a little congested, I bang on this bad boy to absorb oils and get to work pulling out impurities. My skin is left feeling clean and clear. I do find that I need to up the hydration afterward as my skin does feel a little tight.

IMG_2169.JPG

5. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I try to use this little blue wonder 4-5 times a week. I apply it after all my nightly skincare to lock in all the goodness and give me a hydration boost. It is light, non-sticky and absorbs relatively quickly. You wake up in the morning fully refreshed and not a dry patch in sight.  It hydrating enough for dry skin and the gel-formula is light enough for oily skin. Winner.

IMG_2167.JPG

6. BONUS – Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist [INTENSE]  – Limited Edition

Not a mask but a mist. This beautiful multitasker hydrates, refreshes and soothes. I like to use this before masks, after masks, before serums and moisturisers and also as a pick-me-up throughout the day. It smells like a beautiful English rose garden and feels so luxe on the skin. Not only is the mist housed in a ridiculously gorgeous bottle, but the size is huge. I use this constantly and I am not even halfway through.

Have you used any of these masks? What is your current favourite?

Why You Need IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

Heard all the hype? Wondered what is so good about the IT Cosmtetics CC+ Cream? Click to find out.

I am sure you’ve seen people rave over the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream, and you’ve probably wondered what’s so good about it.  Well, I’m going to tell you why it deserves a place in your daily makeup routine.

IMG_6718

Great coverage. Don’t be fooled by the CC cream label, this isn’t a sheer colour corrector – not even close. The coverage is really good. It hides any imperfections while evening out your skin tone in a flash. The result is a beautiful natural looking base, with a velvety finish that allows you to look polished and awake, without any caking or masking.
It doesn’t feel like your wearing makeup. Although the coverage is bang on, it actually doesn’t feel like you are wearing any makeup. It is lightweight, non-sticky and doesn’t transfer. The foundation also doesn’t crease or crack throughout the day. Which means less time is needed to retouch and more time for activities.
You get the benefits of anti-aging skincare.  IT Cosmetics products are created in such a way that it is a skincare treatment first, and a colour cosmetic second. By focusing on soothing, treating and hydrating means that your skin will be benefiting daily from nourishing ingredients instead of your pores being blocked, and your skin getting irritated.  So, essentially you are wearing a nourishing moisturiser and anti-aging treatment with a dose of pigment added at the end to cover and conceal.  This specific formula contains collagen, peptides,  hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and vitamins A,B,C and E.
It contains 50+ SPF.  Being in Australia especially, this is an absolute must in your daily foundation. The biggest anti-ageing treatment is prevention. What better prevention is there than a 50+ SPF that is automatically built into your foundation. The other upside of this is that the SPF is completely physical which means you’ll get absolutely no flashback. Between that and the formula being sweat and water resistant, you will be prepared for anything.
It works on all skin types. I don’t what sorcery has gone into the CC+ cream but along with all those benefits listed above, it works on every skin type. Whether you are dry or oily, you can make this foundation work for you. Depending on what kind of finish you prefer, you might have to set it with powder for something more matte. Otherwise dry, combo and oily babes alike will swoon over this baby.

IMG_6719

I know that the shade range is limited, but I have been assured by the IT Cosmetics educator, that any skin tone will be able to make the shades work. Plus, a little birdy told me that new shades will be released in September.

Have I convinced you yet? It is in stock now but be quick, this bad boy sells out fast. And, believe me, once it is sold out Australia-wide it takes foreverrrr for a restock.

How I store and organise my makeup collection

I’m sure we’ve all drooled over those beautifully organised makeup storage videos and pictures on Instagram.  Everything has its place and each product is displayed so perfectly in drawer inserts, it is honestly like a work of art.

I’m sure we’ve all drooled over those beautifully organised makeup storage videos and pictures on Instagram.  Everything has its place and each product is displayed so perfectly in drawer inserts, it is honestly like a work of art.

While these organisers seem to be what dreams are made of, they really aren’t very practical to me. Firstly, they are bloody expensive. Who wants to spend more money on some bits of acrylic rather than actual makeup products? Yeah, no thanks. With a staggering total of 19 drawers in my vanity, fitting each of them out with dividers would cost upwards of $800. That certainly doesn’t fit into my budget 😐

Untitled design

As beautiful and aesthetically pleasing these vanities look, they are just not very space conscious.  I don’t know about you, but I need to fit more than 30 powders in one drawer. I also need flexibility around the size and shape of products I want to fit into my drawers.

My Storage

Firstly, I really dislike a whole heap of clutter sitting on top of my vanity, so I try to keep it as minimalistic as possible (which is so tricky). Excessive clutter actually makes me feel anxious, so I definitely don’t need for my workspace to have items displayed all over the place. I need a space that is inspiring and gets my creative juices flowing. That just doesn’t happen with 3829 products fighting for space. So I am continually chopping and changing the desktop to get it to a point where I am happy – it hasn’t quite happened yet.

IMG_0348

If I could figure out another way to store my perfumes, where they weren’t taking up desk space, I’d be bang on it. I’ve even put away my brush collection and only left out the brushes I use every day.

IMG_0349

Now, as far as the drawers are concerned, I’m more in the mindset of an organised mess. I’m going to make the most of my space by fitting as many products into a drawer as I can, while still being able to see my collection and sorting by product type.

Here are some snapshots of a selection of drawers

See, organised mess 🙂

I get that it doesn’t look as lovely as your typical makeup storage porn, but its practical, cost-effective and it works for me and my needs. Everything still has its place, I can see all of my products and my wallet isn’t $800 lighter.

I still love the look of clear acrylic dividers, but mine only cost between $2-$5 each from Kmart. I also use Mecca Boxes to divide products – they may not look as aesthetically pleasing but it cuts down on waste too. Plus, I can arrange them however I like, so there’s no chance of some larger products been shafted to a reject drawer because of their size and not fitting into the pre-set dividers (Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronze, I’m looking at you).

How do you store your collection? Are you a bit of an organised mess, like me or more polished?
