My Top Pixi Picks

Pixi by Petra is an iconic international brand which boasts many crowd favorites in both skincare and makeup within their range – a feat not achieved by many.

Pixi is an affordable brand that is easily recognised by its pale green packaging, but don’t be fooled by their soft, whimsical branding, their skincare really packs a punch and the colour cosmetics are of the highest quality.

And while I have tried quite a number of Pixi products, I’ve hardly even made a dent in the huge range, but these are my picks so far…

Glow Tonic

Surely this peachy coloured wonder needs no introduction. Loved by professionals and consumers alike, this cult classic is a staple in bathrooms worldwide. This Glycolic based toner refreshes, renews, balances and soothes the skin leaving it brighter and more refined. This magic juice is suitable for most skin tones and is even gentle enough to use on sensitive skin. For me personally, Glow Tonic has really helped ease congestion through my t-zone, it has lifted pigmentation and makes my complexion plump and bright.

IMG_8586

Milky Hydrating Mist

This is such a lovely hydrating mist. I use this under makeup, on-top of makeup and on bare skin throughout the day, to give my skin a little drink. I particularly like using the Hydrating mist under sheet masks and clay masks to give my skin just that little bit of extra moisture.  It is so lightweight and absorbs into my skin really quickly. It smells lovely but it isn’t overpowering and I find that the mist is super fine and evenly delivers the product which is a huge bonus.

Facetune_05-06-2018-19-28-20

Rose Flash Balm

This sweet smelling balm is an interesting product. It is marketed as an ‘instant skin booster’ and can be used as a primer, mask or moisturiser. It targets lack-lustre skin, instantly reviving, hydrating and ridding the skin of signs of fatigue. I have been using this as a primer and I have fallen head over heels in love. The balm sinks into my skin effortlessly and leaves it oh-so happy.  Makeup applies smoothly over the top and it really seems to make my complexion glow with health.

MatteLast Liquid Lipsticks

The Pixi Mattelast lipsticks are really lovely. They have a light consistency that dries down so comfortably that you’ll forget you are wearing any lipsticks. They don’t dry out my lips and the range of beautiful rosey hued nudes are just my jam. Cannot fault these little babies, and they are one of my favourite daily lip products. Matte Beige is my go-to.

IMG_8584

Palettes

As far as Pixi’s palettes go, it really is difficult to choose between their huge collection of high-quality eye and face palettes. Having recently collaborated with a handful of influencers (#pixipretties), they have released a number of swoon-worthy products. My picks would be the Weylie Hoang eyeshadows and the Cafe Con Dolce multi-use palette. Both palettes boast beautiful formulas and shades but have a multitude of uses. The Weylie eye palette is ideal for travel, as it is small and compact. It contains mid and deep warm shades as well as a few light shimmery shades for good measure. Cafe Con Dolce is a beautiful palette full of soft luminous shades that can be used on the eye or cheek. This cream to powder formula is heavenly and can be diffuser out or built up for a super glow finish.

Have you jumped on the Pixi by Petra bandwagon? What are your faves?

Elucent Skincare Review #2

You may recall a blog post I published late last year reviewing some Elucent skincare goodies after 4 weeks of use. Well, here we are back again after another 4-week stint with Elucent with a few new products to address some new and pre-existing concerns.  This time around I am just as concerned about pigmentation and uneven skin tone that is hanging around since being pregnant. I am also suffering from a bit of a dull complexion, thanks to the fatigue of motherhood.

This time I was recommended the Exfoliating Cleanser from the Whitening range, as well as the same Whitening Day and Night moisturisers that I have previously reviewed. I also trialed the Whitening Spot Treatment and the Anti-Aging Body Moisturiser with 12% AHA’s.

“Elucent Whitening uses a multifunctional skin brightening technology to help restore the complexion. Each skin brightening ingredient in Elucent Whitening has been carefully selected for its ability to help brighten the skin and even out skin tone. By using a combination of ingredients, each product works synergistically with the skin to help restore light and brightness for a more even complexion.”

IMG_4245.JPG

Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser

The consistency of this cleanser is lovely. It is a light, slightly gritty milky type of cleanser that lathers up just enough to give your skin a good clean. My skin does feel refreshed and brighter after use.  I did, however, find that the exfoliating properties weren’t quite enough for me. I didn’t feel like my skin was getting the exfoliation I desired, especially through my oily and congested T-zone. That’s not to say this is a sub-par cleanser at all, it is really lovely and light. But it is just not what I generally look for in a cleanser. If you like a super gentle exfoliator, this would be a great option for you. I’ve also got to give it bonus points for the use of a natural exfoliator instead of harmful microbeads.

Having trialed both the Whitening and Anti-Ageing cleanser, my preferred product would be the Anti-Ageing Cleanser, based on my particular skin type and concerns.

Elucent Whitening Spot Corrector

This little guy is used to give a more targeted treatment to areas of concern. I have a fair bit of pigmentation under both eyes, on my cheeks and quite a bit on my upper lip. So, I used the Spot Corrector on these areas to try and lift the pigmentation. I found the formula of the Spot Corrector very light and easily absorbed into the skin. It sits under moisturiser well and doesn’t seem to ball up which a lot of treatments tend to.

Elucent Whitening Day CreamWhitening Night Cream

Having used both of these products twice before, I knew what to expect. My thoughts on both of these products remain the same. They are effective at hydrating and nourishing the skin, and as for treating pigmentation, I found a slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation, but more on that later. You can find my detailed thoughts on these products here.

IMG_4243

Elucent Anti-Ageing Body Moisturiser

Surely by now, you know how much I love AHA’s, but strangely enough, I have never used a body moisturiser containing them, so I was pretty excited to give this a go. It makes sense to include a chemical exfoliator in a body product as it will get to work sloughing away dead skin cells while also hydrating the skin – perfect.  This moisturiser is lovely and lightweight and absorbs relatively quickly. Granted I didn’t use this product religiously, I just don’t have the time or energy at the moment to grease up my whole body, unfortunately. But the times I have used this I loved the end result, my skin was soft, smooth and flake-free. I will continue to use this when I get the chance.

Overall I found this range to be lovely and gentle. It did brighten my complexion and make my skin look fresh. It made me look like I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed even on days where I only had a couple of hours of sleep (#mumlyf). However, I only noticed a very slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation. At this stage, after trying many different products to address this concern, I feel that only professional and in-salon treatments will lift it due to the nature of the pigmentation. I do believe that with prolonged use on mild pigmentation that this range would be most effective at treating the skin without the irritation of other similar products.

Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer Review

The beauty world seems to be divided over this beautiful but expensive primer, the Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer. I’ve read many different reviews with quite different viewpoints which makes me wonder why this has received such a mixed response.

The beauty world seems to be divided over this beautiful but expensive primer, the Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer. I’ve read many different reviews with quite different viewpoints which makes me wonder why this has received such a mixed response. But after kindly being gifted this luxurious little beauty, I feel like it is my duty to put it to the test, share my honest thoughts and let you know whether it is worth the hefty price tag.

Just for a comparison, one of my all-time favorite primers,  the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer is $79 for 30ml, and the Tatcha Silk Canvas is $76 for 20grams.

Facetune_09-05-2018-07-23-17 2

Firstly, what is it?

Prep your skin with pure silk with this luxurious and velvety priming balm, smoothing and evening out the complexion while increasing the longevity of your makeup for all day, flawless radiance.

This little number contains pink and gold pearl to even out skin tone, Japanese superfoods to aid in anti-aging and botanicals to provide a protective barrier for the skin. Sounds like perfection, right?

The packaging as you’d expect is stunning and super bougie, but not in a gaudy way.  The tub is in the shape of a disc and is quite heavy. The primer even comes with a little spatula that allows you to get the right amount of product each time and to also make sure your grubby little mitts don’t transfer bacteria into the tub. The lid screws off revealing a gorgeous pale pink balmy primer.

IMG_6494 2

The instructions advise that a little goes a really long way, needing only the amount of a rice grain to cover the whole face. Because you only need such a small amount with each use, I think that this little baby will last you quite a while, which makes it a little easier to justify the price.

The consistency is slightly balmy, but super lightweight. It spreads on to the skin beautifully. I find it best to warm up the product between fingertips to make it a little easier to apply. It doesn’t feel silicone-y at all, but rather quite smooth and as light as a feather. It instantly absorbs without any oily or powdery residue, just blurred, soft, slightly tacky skin.  My pores are gone. Gone, I tell you. I have giant gaping holes for pores and to blur and disguise them is truly a miracle.

The wrinkles on my forehead are somewhat reduced and there is just a gorgeous luminosity to my skin – it isn’t shimmery, or sparkly, I just look like a picture of health. Silk Canvas acts as a protective barrier, that doesn’t allow your skin to absorb your make up, which in turn, is fabulous for your skin and decreases the amount of makeup you need to use.

IMG_6496 2

WITH FOUNDATION

I trialed Silk Canvas with a number of foundations with not a whole heap of difference. My foundation applied really well, it seemed to just glide over the face with little to no effort. My skin did remain to look healthy, quite smooth and luminous. The main difference that stood out to me is how my skin felt – it was so goddamn smooth. My makeup lasted well throughout the day and there was no caking, fading or too much oil peaking through. I did notice that my craters of pores did start to become noticeable as the day wore on.

The only real negative I have is that the spatula is super easy to misplace.  It would be unreal if it was magnetic and stuck to the lid to ensure it didn’t go missing. But other than that, this primer is a goodie.

Will you be picking up this beauty? And now to spend my life savings on the rest of the Tatcha range, because I am mother flippin’ obsessed.

Glam Glow Gravity Mud #Glittermask Review

Glam Glow #GLITTERMASK Firming Treatment is a fun, glitter-filled take on their already hugely popular peel-off Gravity Mud. To be honest, I find the idea of a glitter mask a bit instagrammy and gimicky. I don’t get the whole glitter thing, I get that it looks cool, but I’m all about skincare performing effectively rather then aesthetically. Having never used the original, I can’t compare the two but let’s dive into this glitter filled baby to see what it is all about.

Hello beauties,

If you follow my socials you may have caught my time at the wonder that was MECCALAND. For my overseas readers, MECCALAND was the first of its kind here in Australia. It was a 3-day festival of beauty, filled with exclusive limited edition products, masterclasses, meet & greets with beauty gurus and so much more – it really was an unreal experience that three weeks later, I am still reeling from.

I was ridiculously lucky to be invited and flown down to Melbourne for a sneak peak, before MECCALAND was open to the public. And, as if that wasn’t enough, I received an incredible goodie bag filled with a whole heap of limited edition products. The Glam Glow #Glittermask was one of those fabulous products.

#GLITTERMASK is said to visibly firm, tone and boost radiance after just one use. It is meant to leave the complexion taut, luminous and even more youthful than before. Sounds like a winner, right? But does it live up to it’s claims?

Below is a snap of my tired little mug. This was after a night of quite a few breastfeeding sessions, so my skin definitely needed some firming, lifting and brightening. And I needed a hell of a lot of coffee.

IMG_5506
What a potato

The size of the tub is the same as the other GlamGlow masks, containing 50 grams of product, which for the price does seem quite steep. However, I found that you don’t need all that much to cover your face, so it should last quite a while. The formula is black, full of glitter and smells amazing, I want to say it smells of pineapples but I can’t be sure.  The consistency is sticky and thick and reminds me slightly of a cooling gel once applied to the skin.

IMG_5684

It spreads like a breeze on the face, and I apply a fairly generous amount. But I’m conscious about not spreading it too thickly, otherwise it would takes hours to dry. I imagined that the glitter would be somewhat sharp or gritty on the skin, but I hardly felt it at all.

IMG_5613

The mask took about 30 minutes to dry and I was a little nervous to peel it off, because in the past peel off masks have basically waxed my face of all peach fluff – Not cool. Not fun. very ouch.  Butttttt, this peeled off with absolute ease, not one hair was plucked out of my little head. My skin instantly felt really fresh and bright. After glancing in the mirror my face definitely looked more firm, taut and definitely luminous.  No bags or sagging in sight.

IMG_5698
A brighter looking potato

In summary, I have really loved the results of the #glittermask. My skin is de-puffed, bright and more youthful. I think that this would be ideal before an event to ensure your skin is in tip-top shape. The glitter is fun, great for pictures but totally unnecessary.  It is the same price as the original so you can opt to be a glittery potato or stick to the silver. As much as I love what the mask does, I don’t think I could drop $86 on one mask  – probably because I’m on maternity leave and a little strapped for cash. However in the future there is a good chance I may look into this little sparkly black beauty again.

What are your thoughts about the #glittermask?

Beauty Essentials for Busy Babes

Busy. You ask anyone how they have been, there’s a good chance they are going to tell you how busy they are. Whether it’s a demanding job, needy children, a time-consuming side hustle, or all of the above, we all could benefit from products that are no-bullshit, practical and effective.

Busy. You ask anyone how they have been, there’s a good chance they are going to tell you how busy they are. Whether it’s a demanding job, needy children, a time-consuming side hustle, or all of the above, we all could benefit from products that are no-bullshit, practical and effective. If something saves me 10 minutes in the morning and gives me the luxury of a hot coffee, or a few extra minutes in bed, you bet your sweet little bum I’m going to use it.

Bobbi Brown 5-in1 Essential Face Palette*

This palette is almost all you need when it comes to make-up on the go. Including a concealer, corrector, foundation, face powder and blush, the 5-in-1 palette is an essential in any busy babes collection. All of the products are up to the Bobbi Brown incredibly high standard. The colour corrector and concealer are perfect for that under-eye discolouration. The foundation, powder and bronzer work so well at evening out skin tone and making me look alive.  This palette is great to pop into your handbag/babybag to have on hand if you’re looking like a hot mess and need to freshen up. I cannot fault it.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow

If you had a gander at my previous blog post, you’d know that I recently had my brows tattooed. This has been my biggest time-saver yet. However, I understand that this isn’t the most budget friendly option. So, I give you the Tattoo Brow. This nifty little brow prod tints your brows for 3 days, so you can go without filling them in for a little while. The tint peels off after 15 minutes and gives you instagram worthy eyebrows without much effort at all.

IMG_5721

Now, as much as I am a makeup lover, I know that your makeup only looks as good as the skin underneath. Time and effort spent on getting your skin into tip-top shape not only makes your make up look its best, but also allows you the confidence to go without. Minimal makeup means more time on your hands to get shit done.

img_3234

Cinch Face Cheat

This. I am all about this bottle of magic. Face Cheat is another 5-in-1 product (Who knew there were so many?) that is all about glowing hydration on the go. The spray delivery makes it a ridiculously easy moisturiser to use. But not only does it hydrate, it illuminates, as well as acting as a primer, pore-filler and anti-ageing treatment. No other moisturiser makes me look as fresh and healthy in one simple spray. I keep this within reach to ensure my skin is getting a little bit of loving and to make me look as fresh as a daisy.

IMG_3258

Pre-Soaked Chemical Exfoliator Pads

If you have known me for any amount of time, you would know my undying love for chemical exfoliators.  But, if you are new to my little corner of the inter-webs, just know that AHA’s are my number 1 skincare product, by far. I have been drawn to pre-soaked pads recently, because it makes it all too easy to swipe all over my face one-handed while feeding Bubba Lou, blogging or carrying out all my domestic goddess duties. I have been using and loving the Murad Rapid Resurfacing Peel*, First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads*, and Go-To Skincare Exfoliating Swipeys. Dr Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peels are my ride or die, but because I am breastfeeding it is best to steer clear of BHAs.

These bad boys and a good moisturiser are absolute essentials in my day. Regardless of how tired I am, I make sure I at least follow this two step routine to make my skin look fresh and healthy, even when I am running on 2 hours sleep.

IMG_2147

Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon*

Speaking of moisturiser, this special little guy has been getting workout! What is better than a product that works its little butt off for you? It is one that does so while you sleep, while actually helping you drift off at the same time. This is actual sorcery. Sound Sleep is a gel like cream that works with your skin’s natural overnight recovery mode to replenish and repair, enabling you to wake up luminous and fresh without any sign of fatigue in sight. It contains essential oils (Lavender, Sandalwood and Patchouli) to promote a deep and restful sleep. This product is an absolute dream – pun most definitely intended.

IMG_8820

Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Mask*

While on the topic of sleep, it is really clever to utilise this time to make products work for you. This is another overnight mask that will have your skin glowing without needing to put in much effort at all. This particular mask targets  lifeless, sagging skin (the new mum type of skin) and transforms it into younger-looking, silky soft skin. This delicious smelling gel dries down pretty quickly, so you are not dirty-ing up your pillowcase (yay for less washing) and you wake up bright and fresh.

Facetune_05-03-2018-18-28-18

Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask*

This is another little miracle in a tub. I have chronically dry lips, and I mean chronic. It has previously felt like a constant battle trying to make my lips feel plump, smooth and flake free. But this has been my absolute saviour. I no longer need spend half the day applying balm to my lips. This sweet smelling thick and creamy balm is applied before bed and gets to work treating that sweet little pout of yours. It is comfortable on the lips, not sticky but smooth and buttery. When I wake up there is still the slightest little slick of balm there and my lips feel so bloody soft. I have noticed a huge difference in the condition of my lips and feel so confident when wearing liquid lipsticks, knowing that I won’ t have any little dry scraggly bits. An absolute winner and time saver.

Hair

When it comes to hair, I have always been a bit lazy.  My hair is pretty oily, so most days I just wash it and let it air dry, only occasionally making the effort to actually style it. But with time being limited, I haven’t been able to wash or style it as often. Recently I have been reaching for products that refresh hair between washes and products that prolong my hairstyling. NAK Aromas Style Therapy* is a fabulous spray that acts similarly to a dry shampoo but with the added benefit of revamping styles while adding a touch of body to flat-looking slept in hair.  OUAI Memory Mist* is another similar product that allows you to get the most out of your blowdried, curled or straightened locks. This however is used before styling to make your style last longer. Both sprays include a heat protectant, so you get more bang for your buck.

IMG_3312.JPG

I know this was a hella long post, but hopefully there’s a few products mentioned that will save you some valuable time in the long run.
