Beauty Worth Investing In

This whole beauty business can be very pricey. While I do tend to opt for drugstore buys there are some items that I believe are worth investing in.

Yes. This is an expensive product, and yes, I am aware that there are cheaper alternatives. But I wouldn’t harp on about this device if I didn’t love it. I have used many different replicas like Clinique and Olay but seriously nothing compares. I thought I cleaned my face well enough, but after using this guy for the first time, I was shocked at the amount of foundation that the Clarisonic picked up. I have forever struggled with my skin and now, after seeing this, I know why. The Clarisonic was the first of its kind and uses sonic oceslation technology to gently work with your skin’s elasticity, not against it. Other alternatives rotate and spin which can actually do more damage than good. I also think that the brush head makes a lot of difference. Even though I don’t have sensitive skin, I find that the normal brush can be a little too much, so I opt for the delicate or sensitive type.

Foreo Luna Mini*
Not a fan of the Clarisonic? Maybe the Foreo Luna Mini is more your speed. To be utterly honest, I love both the Clarisonic and Foreo equally, but for different reasons. The Foreo is this gorgeous little vibrating silicone pebble that is really gentle on the skin. There are no interchangeable parts, so what you see it what you get. And after the first initial purchase, you don’t need to keep re-purchasing parts. I love using the Luna Mini in the morning to wake up my skin, as soothing massage to prepare my face for the day. As mentioned before, this device it supremely gentle and I would recommend this baby for sensitive and even mature skin. The battery life lasts forever and this little guy seems to be a little more hygienic – there is no science behind this, it is just something I have in my head, haha. But the only downside is that I don’t feel like it gives me enough cleansing action to remove my cakeface, and that’s where my love for my Clarisonic fits in. If you want a more in-depth comparison, let me know and I’ll get my bum into gear and get typing.

Pssst. There is a sale on Foreo over on bransexclusive right now and only lasts for a few more days. Jump to it!

While you don’t need to spend a small fortune on skincare to get great results, I think you need to invest time and effort into planning and sticking to your skin regime. For so long I just used any skincare products willy nilly. But, in order for your skin to benefit from skincare products, they have to be used religiously. Every so often I like to sit down and think about what it is that I want to target and with what product. Do you want anti-aging? Should you use rentinol based products, or should you be using Hydraluronic Acid. Do you want to fight blemishes or un-even skin tone? Brightening or balancing?  Skin is constantly changing and is a product of environmental, genetic and health factors, so it is super beneficial to change-up your regime every season.  Since I have dedicated time and effort into my skincare routine I have noticed a huge difference, and because I am giving the products the best advantage to work, I can see what my skin likes and doesn’t like. For a starting point I would suggest Real-U SkinFit program. This program contains the products you need, as well as a monthly guide to get an understanding of how to work your routine. Real-U* gave me incredible results. While I try literally hundreds of products, Real-U has definitely changed the game for me, and I will revert back to it whenever my skin is looking a bit weathered.

Skin Treatment

This is only a new luxury to me, but I can really see the benefit in getting semi-regular facials. I say semi-regular because I honestly don’t believe they need to be had too often, just when you think your skin is lacking. Since having a few peels/microdermabrasion/facials I have noticed a big difference in my skin’s texture and all-round health. While I am not someone who forks out a lot of money for regular professional treatments, I am happy to treat my self for a special occasion or if my skin is looking particularly dull and tired. After a bit of research and conversations with professionals, I think that peels, particularly glycolic based peels,  are the way to go. Peels come in a variety of strengths, with very little downtime. Peels aim to correct skin texture, fine lines, sun damage, congestion and dull skin – basically a general all-round treatment. I recently went for a facial at the Ella Bache College *in North Sydney, and it was probably one of the most relaxing afternoons of my life! My skin is still glowing a week and a half later.

There are so many different brush brands out there that offer high quality for super reasonable prices. I have never forked out for high-end brushes when something half the price is just as good. However, that being said, I believe that there is some aspects of investment involved. Everyone needs a good base brush kit with great quality, that will last the distance. I use so many different brushes but always come back to my staples. I purchased two Zoeva brush sets around 2 years ago and these babies have not let me down.  They are easily cleaned, with no threat to their integrity. There is also a huge range, so definitely a brush that suits your every need. Although the brush kits seem expensive, when you break it down per brush it is much cheaper than buying them individually. Zoeva Brushes have truly stood the test of time in my collection, when other brushes started to shed and lose their shape in a fraction of the time, my Zoeva babies continue to blend like a dream. Absolute workhorses.

If you are going lighter and your hairdresser asks if you would like an Olaplex treatment, say yes! Grab onto the opportunity with both hands and scream yes! Put simply, Olaplex is an in-salon repair treatment which limits the amount of damage to the hair during or after colouring. As someone who has been lightning their hair for years, this technology is a life-saver. My hair doesn’t feel weak, coarse and knotty after bleaching, it actually feels strong and healthy, with a great deal of shine. I get this treatment probably every other salon visit and my hair reaps the results. I also buy the take-home component of the treatment, to give my hair a good boost between visit. I notice less hair loss and breakage, better colour longevity and health after using Olaplex. Olaplex also allows a drastic change in colour (think black to blonde) in a shorter amount of time and with minimal damage to the integrity of your hair. Even if your current salon doesn’t offer this, I would highly recommend a salon that does, it is that good.

The list isn’t really that long, and that’s because I think makeup and cosmetics are things that should be enjoyed and experimented with. Different of things work for different people, and I feel that every one’s collection is a true reflection style and attitude. Never feel like you need to own the most expensive products to get the best results, because it is just not true.

Is there anything else that you would add to my list?

TIGI Hair Care Sydney Style Series *GIVEAWAY*

Hey Beauties,

Hope you are well 🙂 I wanted to discuss an exciting collaboration happening between PREMA X TIGI. These two incredible brands have teamed up to create the Sydney Style Series. This campaign is centred around the question “where do you belong”? Highlighting 4 iconic Sydney Suburbs – The City, Newtown, Bondi and Surry Hills. The incredibly talented hair stylists from leading international hair salon, PREMA, have created looks using only TIGI products to reflect the unique style of each of the suburbs. Not familiar with each of the Sydney suburbs? Don’t fret, pet, I’ll explain it all in a minute.

The City
She’s all business during the day and lets loose at night with a feminine energy we love. Think strong, sleek and polished.

She’s laidback and effortlessly cool, with a style as transient as she is. Think quirky, creative and unique styling.

She’s beach chic, relaxed and always knows that less is more. Think beachy waves and effortless style.

 Surry Hills

She is understated with a strong identity, her style is raw and organic. Think understated glam.

I thought I would try and re-create a couple of these looks – try being the operative word. We all know how hopeless I am when It comes to hairstyling. Let’s see how I go. I think the looks I identify most with is the Surry Hills effortlessly cool, understated style. I’m not always super polished, I like a little bit more of a casual and relaxed look.

I adore this look! It was so super easy to achieve and the results were perfect. I actually impressed myself with how well I did. This is definitely a style that I would wear. I can wear this to work, on the weekend for coffee dates or I could even make it work for a night out. LOVE LOVE LOVE.  I have attempted to re-create style before from magazines, blogs etc etc. and I have never achieved the desired results, but with this one, I am blown away.

This is my attemptat the second Surry Hills style. This look is quite polished yet simple. I like this look, however my hair looks similar to this when I let it dry naturally without the product and heat. It is definitely a style I would wear when I am after something classic and simple. It has been super fun to play around with my hair and dedicate time and effort to it. I also loved learning about what each of the product does and how to add it into my daily routine.

I would highly recommend stepping out of your comfort zone, like me, to try to give these looks a go. TIGI have generously provided a hamper worth over $300, including all the products used to create each of the styles, to giveaway to my loyal followers. Unfortunately, this giveaway will only be open to Australian residents, due to the weight of the hamper. All you need to do is watch the videos above and comment on this blog post with which style resonated most with you. Competition will close Sunday 25th September at 11:59pm. Winner will be announced shortly afterwards. Good Luck!

Current Hair Go-To’s

Hair care is not something I speak much about, I think it is because I am hopeless at hair styling and I generally wash it and hope for the best. If I really want to put some effort in, I will use a curling tong through the mid sections and go.  However, I do take a lot of pride in the health of my hair and thought it is about time highlight some of my current favourites.

Firstly, I cannot live without Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo. Nothing, and I mean nothing removes brassiness at home quite like this shampoo. I am the kind of person who would prefer my hair to be tinted purple than to be on the gold side. So this little baby is a Ride or Die product for me. The formula is thick and is a beautiful dark indigo colour. It doesn’t dry out my hair at all and leaves it smelling super fresh.  I hate it when shampoos are too heavy and leave my hair feeling knotty and rough after washing out, but Clean Blonde doesn’t do that at al. The only down side is that it can slightly stain the dry skin on my fingers, But as long as my hair is ashy, I don’t care in the slightest.

El8te sent me some products from their Nourish & Shine hair range, and I  immediately fell in love. The scent is intoxicating and fresh. This range is 100% chemical free which is a huge bonus, so there is no hidden nasties nor is it damaging the environment. The shampoo and conditioner are full of Australian rosemary and citrus oils which encouage shine, while increasing circulation in the scalp to promote hair growth and health. This range is super refreshing and even leaves a cool tingling sensation on the scalp and neck, which I think will be amazing in the warmer weather. Although the conditioner isn’t as hydrating as I would normally like, a few squirts of a hair oil sorts that right out.  Absolutely love using this El8te hair range.

Speaking of hair oils, Loreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil has been an absolute god-send. This little bottle of golden goodness sorts my locks out in no time. It leaves my hair hydrated, soft, smooth and tangle free. I have found that this budget-friendly buy out performs other more expensive hair oils that I have previously used.  I pop it into towel dried hair and brush it though, and my hair dries so silky soft and frizz-free. I can also add it to dry hair if it’s looking a little lack-lustre. As a beauty blogger, I trial a whole heap of hair products and I am super fussy about my conditioner and leave in products, sometimes a conditioner dries my hair out so bad, but this little guy really helps to bring back the hydration. I have purchased this probably 3 times and the bottle lasts forever. I also have never had an issues with oily or limp strands after too much use – my hair just seems to drink it up. A+++

Olaplex is another long-running hair staple. I am lucky that my hairdresser has this treatment available to ensure the integrity of my hair isn’t jeopardized when coloured. This in-salon treatment is used to prevent damaged caused by colouring. You can find a more detailed review in Olaplex here.

Speaking of my Hairdresser, I can thank Hair & Harlow for the stunning colour, cut and health of my hair.  I have so much trust in Justine and the team, and despite their huge popularity and success, they have remained passionate and above all, friendly. Visiting the salon is an absolute pleasure. They aren’t intimidating nor condescending, just beautiful down-to-earth driven women. Plus they certainly know their way around scissors and foils, known widely for their balayage techniques  This amazing team pride themselves on a high quality of customer service, innovation, empowerment and education. Amy and Justine are total #Girlbosses.

“Okay, Okay, Camille, We get it. You hate dry hair” But just incase I haven’t driven that point home enough, I just HAVE to mention Catwalk by Tigi Oatmeal and Honey Mask again. This mask is the most amazing treatment mask I have ever used. It smells delicious and leaves my hair suuuuuuuuuper soft, hydrated and healthy. I use this mask at least twice weekly to keep my hair up to scratch. If you need  hyrdation and health, get this bad boy in your shower and smother it all over you hair PRONTO! I believe they have a shampoo and conditioner in this range as well, so they are definitely on my wishlist.

I have recently mentioned this product, but just have to speak about it again. Oribe Texturising Spray is incredible. This dry-shampoo cross volumising spray, gives my fine straight hair texture and body. I spray in the roots and mid sections and style as usual for a salon style created at home. I love the volume it adds to curled or even straight hair. This little guy is a winner.

Last but certainly not least, Lady Jayne have the most amazing range of hair tools. I mean, who doesn’t love a good quality bobby-pin?! Their brushes de-tangle my hair without breakage and add so much shine. I don’t think I have ever actually used a round brush during blow-drying before, but this baby was so so so easy to use. I was actually able to successfully style my hair at home; perfect for a rookie like me. Plus their hair bands don’t pull, snag or leave me with a ‘ponytail headache’. Lady Jayne is widely available and for such reasonable prices, they are my go-to styling tools.

What are your hair favourites?

Speak soon,

Camille x
