Having never tried Illamasqua before, I was really impressed to see that RY stocked a decent amount of products from the brand. I got my grubby little mitts on the Rich Liquid Foundation and the Beyond Powder in OMG.

Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation

Achieve maximum coverage with the Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation; a coveted makeup base utilised and loved by professional makeup artists.

The liquid formula is effortlessly applied to the complexion, offering seamless, blended and water-resistant results. Delivering a semi-matte finish, the foundation conditions the skin and is able to eliminate excess oil to reduce unwanted shine. A perfect base for flawless and long lasting makeup application.

I seriously love the packaging – it is a squeezy tube but still looks oh-so-chic. Absolutely perfect for travel and to pop in your handbag without the risk of shattering. Other brands need to take note.

My first impressions weren’t great. I had washed all my brushes and sponges,  so they were downstairs drying, so when I went to apply this foundation, I used my Clarisonic with the foundation brush head. BIG mistake. The foundation was cakey, thick and immediately settled into my pores and fine lines. It created texture where there was none. You know how I love a subtle glow, but this was beyond. Within half an hour of wearing this, it looked like you could fry an egg on my chin – it was that greasy. I needed to powder before leaving the house, and while this did contain the oil, it did little to help with the other issues. In fact, it made my skin look even worse.

Throughout the day my skin felt disgusting and heavy, and looking in the mirror was a fright. These results are the exact opposite of what this foundation is meant to achieve. So I have put it down as perhaps too much product and not the best tool for the job.

But, because I think products can often be misrepresented by first impressions, I persevered and kept wearing the foundation, and lucky I did. I experimented with tools, primers, and powders to really make the most of the foundation and get it to work for my skin. I found that a Beauty Blender is by far my favourite way to apply. It sheers out the thick formula which, in turn, prevents caking. This, in addition to a pore-filling primer like the Tatcha Silk Canvas really makes all the difference. You can see by the photos below how much more natural and smooth my skin looks. A huge difference from the results on the first day of wear.

This foundation is heavy duty. Full coverage and really long wearing. Definitely not something you’d reach for on a daily basis. But for a special occasion, it is ideal. It photographs so bloody well and covers everythinggggg. I think it would work well for most skin types but, like me, you might need to play around with a few factors to ensure you get the most out of the Illamasqua Rich Foundation.

Illamasqua Beyond Powder in OMG

The silky powder glides effortlessly over skin, and can be used to create an all-over illuminated finish or applied with more precision to perform like a highlighter. Perfect for illuminating the high points of the face and reflecting light, the powder is effective when worn on the top of the cheek bones, brow bones and even the collar bones.

Facetune_24-05-2018-20-16-45

This highlighter is gorgeous! Probably one of the prettiest in my collection and the white gold shade is just my cup of tea. The packagaing again steals the show. The shiny black plastic is so sleek and the shape is just so unique and appealing.   The powder itself is very fine and applies beautifully.  It leaves a lovely subtle shimmer that perfectly highlights the high point of the face. This is the exact type of illuminator that I lust over. Soft, subtle with a slight warm undertone – perfect.  Using the Beyond Powder with a dry brush gives your skin the most gorgeous glow, but if you wanna ramp it up and get that ‘gram worthy glow, it can also be applied with a wet brush – I haven’t attempted this, because it is just not my thing.

Facetune_24-05-2018-20-25-24

I am seriously impressed with the two Illamasqua products that I have tried, and I am looking forward to browsing through the rest of the range on RY.com.au and picking up some more goodies.

What are your favourite RY.COM.AU brands?

Elucent Skincare Review #2

You may recall a blog post I published late last year reviewing some Elucent skincare goodies after 4 weeks of use. Well, here we are back again after another 4-week stint with Elucent with a few new products to address some new and pre-existing concerns.  This time around I am just as concerned about pigmentation and uneven skin tone that is hanging around since being pregnant. I am also suffering from a bit of a dull complexion, thanks to the fatigue of motherhood.

This time I was recommended the Exfoliating Cleanser from the Whitening range, as well as the same Whitening Day and Night moisturisers that I have previously reviewed. I also trialed the Whitening Spot Treatment and the Anti-Aging Body Moisturiser with 12% AHA’s.

“Elucent Whitening uses a multifunctional skin brightening technology to help restore the complexion. Each skin brightening ingredient in Elucent Whitening has been carefully selected for its ability to help brighten the skin and even out skin tone. By using a combination of ingredients, each product works synergistically with the skin to help restore light and brightness for a more even complexion.”

Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser

The consistency of this cleanser is lovely. It is a light, slightly gritty milky type of cleanser that lathers up just enough to give your skin a good clean. My skin does feel refreshed and brighter after use.  I did, however, find that the exfoliating properties weren’t quite enough for me. I didn’t feel like my skin was getting the exfoliation I desired, especially through my oily and congested T-zone. That’s not to say this is a sub-par cleanser at all, it is really lovely and light. But it is just not what I generally look for in a cleanser. If you like a super gentle exfoliator, this would be a great option for you. I’ve also got to give it bonus points for the use of a natural exfoliator instead of harmful microbeads.

Having trialed both the Whitening and Anti-Ageing cleanser, my preferred product would be the Anti-Ageing Cleanser, based on my particular skin type and concerns.

Elucent Whitening Spot Corrector

This little guy is used to give a more targeted treatment to areas of concern. I have a fair bit of pigmentation under both eyes, on my cheeks and quite a bit on my upper lip. So, I used the Spot Corrector on these areas to try and lift the pigmentation. I found the formula of the Spot Corrector very light and easily absorbed into the skin. It sits under moisturiser well and doesn’t seem to ball up which a lot of treatments tend to.

Elucent Whitening Day CreamWhitening Night Cream

Having used both of these products twice before, I knew what to expect. My thoughts on both of these products remain the same. They are effective at hydrating and nourishing the skin, and as for treating pigmentation, I found a slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation, but more on that later. You can find my detailed thoughts on these products here.

IMG_4243

Elucent Anti-Ageing Body Moisturiser

Surely by now, you know how much I love AHA’s, but strangely enough, I have never used a body moisturiser containing them, so I was pretty excited to give this a go. It makes sense to include a chemical exfoliator in a body product as it will get to work sloughing away dead skin cells while also hydrating the skin – perfect.  This moisturiser is lovely and lightweight and absorbs relatively quickly. Granted I didn’t use this product religiously, I just don’t have the time or energy at the moment to grease up my whole body, unfortunately. But the times I have used this I loved the end result, my skin was soft, smooth and flake-free. I will continue to use this when I get the chance.

Overall I found this range to be lovely and gentle. It did brighten my complexion and make my skin look fresh. It made me look like I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed even on days where I only had a couple of hours of sleep (#mumlyf). However, I only noticed a very slight difference in my uneven skin tone and pigmentation. At this stage, after trying many different products to address this concern, I feel that only professional and in-salon treatments will lift it due to the nature of the pigmentation. I do believe that with prolonged use on mild pigmentation that this range would be most effective at treating the skin without the irritation of other similar products.

Vogue X Bellabox

Hello beauties,

I wanted to share with you a little snapshot of the upcoming Vogue X Bellabox beauty box that has been curated to be chock-full of luxe beauty samples from all across the globe. This little box sure isn’t little on value boasting a massive value of $180 for only $79.95, containing 11 well-loved products, and quite a few all-time favourite products for me. This box is such a great way to try luxury items without having to fork out for the full-size not knowing if the product works for you or not.

Let’s take a peak inside…

Facetune_26-04-2018-16-01-02

The first thing that took my eye was a glossy white Quay Australia case. If you haven’t heard of it, Quay is a ridiculously popular and bang on trend sunglasses brand. The sunnies included are in the style ‘PLAYA‘. These are a very flattering universal aviator style, highlighted by the silver chrome frame and super reflective mirrored lenses.  These little babies alone would set you back $60.

Next up is the very famous, MAC Strobe Cream. This little luminous beauty is a must have in any makeup collection. It can be used in a myriad of ways from a brightening primer to a crazy bright instagram worthy highlight. I have been using this wonder-product for many years, and still haven’t managed to get through a whole bottle (a little goes a verrrry long way), so this little sample size is a perfect little taste. Also, if you use the code ‘BELLABOX’ on the MAC website, you will be eligible for free shipping – yes please!

If you scroll through my blog or instagram feed, it wouldn’t take you long to find a Stevie K product. Which is why the inclusion of a Stevie K Give ‘Em Lip  is really exciting.  These lippies are not only super pigmented, but they are also creamy and nourishing. This is one of my all-time favourite formulas to date. And what makes it even better, is that these bad boys were developed and made right here in Australia. Melbourne to be exact. Use the code ‘BELLABOX’ to get 25% off at steviekcosmetics.com

Another favourite product of mine is the ORIBE Dry Texturising Spray. This clever little invisible spray adds a gorgeous amount volume to the roots while also acting as a dry shampoo.  As someone with very fine hair, I need all the help I can get when it comes to volume and this product is my go-to. I actually prefer the travel size as it is easy to pop into your handbag and have voluminous hair on the go.

We are on a roll with favourite beauty products – it is like this box was made specifically for me. The Take Off The Day Balm by Clinique is my absolute holy grail when it comes to make-up removal. This balm dissolves every little bit of makeup on your face without stripping the skin of all that important moisture. This balm doesn’t irritate my skin or leave too much of an oily residue. I am so happy of the inclusion of the travel sized pot as it will be great for travel and perfect for the babes testing this little hard-worker out for the first time.

The Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate Serum is another product that I have spoken about on numerous occasions.  It is not often that I see visible results from a product in only a few days, but this serum is no joke. Even after first use, my skin is plump, hydrated and glowing. Genifique is really light and easily absorbed and is perfect under makeup and is a practical addition to your skincare regime.

Jurlique is another brand that I have grown to love over time. The Herbal Recovery Advanced Eye Serum is a lovely light, easily absorbed serum that is full of potent antioxidants that boost radiance and hydration. This product has worked well for me in the past, and I am looking forward to giving it another go. The size of this little guy is fabulous for an eye product as you only need a small amount and this gives you a chance to experience it without any wastage.

IMG_4860

The following products are brand-new to me and I am really looking forward to trialling them and possibly discovering new favourites.

Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender & Espresso Hand Therapy. This hand cream smells incredible. It seems like such a strange mix of scents as lavender has such a calming, soothing effect, while coffee is known for it’s uplighting and energising properties. This hand cream is silky smooth and feels lovely on the skin. I have popped this little tube into my handbag and I am looking forward to using it a little more.

Molton Brown Comice Pear & Wild Honey Liquid Hand Wash. While admittedly I thought a hand wash was a strange inclusion for a luxury beauty box, it does smell lovely and it sure does look lush.  I am not familiar with Molton Brown, but going by the fragrance it is definitely going to be a winner next to my sink.

While I am no stranger L’Occitane, the Shea Light Comforting Cream is a newie for me. L’Occitane always produce the most gorgeous skincare items full of beautiful botanicals. This particular cream is said to provide all-day long hydration and protection due to the addition of omega-6 in the formula. I am looking forward to giving this a go as I have had fabulous success with their products in the past.

And finally the last product is the Dr Lewinns Eternal Youth Skin Polishing Exfoliant. Formulated with green tea, and charcoal this scrub is said to slough away dead skin cells and draw out impurities from within the skin. As someone with blackheads and issues with texture this sounds really interesting.

So, that rounds up all the fancy products in the Vouge X Bellabox collab. This is the first box in a while that has really captured my attention. The products are of really high quality and most have a cult status, so it is perfect for those looking to try some new luxury items, or for those of us that already love these products and would benefit from travel sizes.

What do you think of the box?

My Eyebrow Feathering Cosmetic Tattoo Experience – Sydney Permanent Make-up Centre

My experience with Eyebrow tattooing via Sydney Permanent Make-Up Centre

Imagine a world where you could wake up with perfect brows everyday, without any effort.  I don’t know about you, but that’s my kind of heaven.

As a beauty tragic, my teenage years were spent plucking and preening my eyebrows to the point of almost disfigurement. Now that I know the importance of a strong brow, I religiously get my brows waxed and tinted once a month, but it can become expensive and tiresome, especially when I still need to fill them in most days. Although I have a decent amount of hair there, they are pretty patchy and uneven.  I have always struggled with the shape, especially on my right brow where the arch in pretty non-existent.

IMG_6787
Uneven and patchy brows

I have been curious about cosmetic tattooing, and micro-blading but I had heard not-so-positive feedback and honestly it was something that made me a little nervous. After I was given the opportunity* to give it a go, I jumped at the chance. Being even more time poor now as a mother, I thought this was as good a time as any.  Rita and the team at Sydney Permanent Make-Up Centre had an fabulous reputation and all the reviews were glowing.

Rita has 26 years (!) of experience in cosmetic tattooing and even teaches her own masterclass. Rita also explained that she has a particular passion for medical tattooing including nipples for mastectomy patients and scar camouflage. I could not be in better hands.

The Process

I was a touch nervous the morning of, I mean it is a tattoo at the end of the day, but as soon as I walked into the clinic my mind was at ease. The clinic was gorgeous, I felt confident that Rita would do an incredible job.

First up, Rita examined my brows and filled them in with a pencil to get the idea of shape. After we were both happy with the shape, we discussed technique and colour. I had in my mind that my brows would be mircobladed, but Rita assured me that cosmetic tattooing was the way to go, as I already had hair there and I just needed more definition. The tattoo would still give off the illusion of brow hairs but it would just make my brows fuller and more sharp. Plus the tattoo option would be longer lasting (about 2 years) – win, win.

Numbing cream has been applied

Numbing cream was applied while Rita organised her equipment. The first round of tattooing was fairly painful and it did make my eyes water – however it wasn’t unbearable and it was as expected.  This first round of tattooing allowed the numbing cream to penetrate further which really eased the pain for the remainder of the procedure. Rita was thorough but quick, ensuring we were both happy with the result. The whole procedure from walking in the clinic to walking out only lasted an hour – I couldn’t believe it. Rita explained that she does work particularly quick due to her many years of experience. As I left the clinic, I felt extremely positive about not only the result, but the whole experience.

Healing

Immediately afterwards my eyebrows felt like they were on fire. But as the day wore on the pain eased and soon there was no pain at all. After-care required me to apply cream 4 times a day for the next two weeks, among a few other details.

Brows immediately after

Day 1 – My brows felt tender and looked extremely dark

Day 3 – There was no pain whatsoever, and scabs began to form

IMG_8924
Day 3

Day 5 – I noticed some slight colour fading. My brows were extremely itchy and scabby. It took every fibre of my being not to scratch. As I wiped away the Vaseline after my shower, I noticed that there was a lot of peeling and quite a few scabs came away

IMG_9926
Day 7

Day 7 – Brows looked and felt amazing. Scabbing was now at a minimum and they were only a  little itchy

After a week, my brows had faded a fair bit but looked incredibly natural. They itched occasionally but otherwise I felt like they had almost completely healed.

Brows fully heeled – no product

I am ridiculously happy with my brows, in fact, I could not be happier. However, I do think I will need to go back for a touch up as some areas just need a tiny bit more of a fill in, but that is normal. I cannot recommend the procedure, Rita, or SPMC enough. At no point throughout the journey did I feel unsure and I was provided with an incredible amount of support and information. I have received so many compliments about the shape of my brows and I am loving waking up each morning with my brows already looking on-point, and I love that the results should last 2 whole years  It saves me so much time in the morning, and I feel so much more confident not wearing makeup. Seriously, I cannot gush over my brows enough.

It is a procedure that I would happily do again. The process and pain is definitely worth the results. I now will tell anyone who will listen how amazing cosmetic tattooing is.

A HUGE thank you to Rita and the team for looking after me so well. Please please please ask me if you have any questions as at all – I felt so much more comfortable with the procedure after I had more information about it. I want everyone to be able to experience perfect brows all day every day.

Elucent Skincare REVIEW

The one thing that sticks out for me with Elucent is it’s inclusion of fabulous active ingredients.

Hello petals,

Here we are again, looking at another skincare review. This time I wanted to discuss Elucent skincare. I have previously used their whitening range, and was quite impressed with the results and quality of the products. So, when I was asked to more formal review, I did a little happy dance. I used the products previously until they were empty, and have been using them again for the last 4 weeks.

IMG_3960

The one thing that sticks out for me with Elucent is it’s inclusion of fabulous active ingredients. Since discovering the world of AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) a little while ago, it is something that I find is essential in my skincare products. It has completely changed the texture, look and all-round health of my complexion. AHA’s work by gently chemically exfoliating and resurfacing the skin to leave brighter, smoother and fresher skin.  The Anti-Aging range star ingredient is AHA’s, while the Whitening Range uses Safflower Seed Oil and Emblica Fruit extract to target pigmentation. I have been using products from both ranges.

So, let’s break down the regime…

Anti-Aging Gentle Cleanser

It was recommended that  I use the Anti-Aging Gentle Cleanser with 2% AHAs for refining and brightening my sometimes dull complexion.

Carefully formulated with a blend of cleansers and moisturisers this gentle facial cleanser will refresh the skin without causing dryness, while the combination of AHAs and vitamins B3 and E work together to gently exfoliate and visibly revitalise the skin. After using this face wash, your skin is perfectly prepared for your Elucent moisturiser. Use Elucent Anti-Ageing Gentle Cleanser as your primary skin cleanser for youthful-looking skin.

This cleanser is really lovely and mild. As expected it is gentle on skin and doesn’t leave me feeling tight and dry. As an avid user of the ‘double cleanse’ method, the Elucent cleanser really is the perfect second step to ensure my skin is getting an effective clean while being nourished at the same time . I LOVE the thought of the AHA’s gently exfoliating and treating my skin without the harsh drying that usually comes along with using hard-working active ingredients. With only 2% AHA’s, combined with soothing B3 and E vitamins, this is a really great product to use to slowly introduce your skin to chemical exfoliation without the threat of irritation.  This is definitely my favourite out of the products that I have tried.

IMG_3955

Whitening Day Moisturiser

The powerful moisturising agents work to give the skin a hydrating boost, while the broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen helps protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun and sun induced darkening. For best results, use in combination with Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser and Elucent Whitening Night Moisturiser

As soon as I pumped out the day moisturiser into my hand, I was a little concerned. The formula is quite thick, white and scented like sunscreen – reminding of my days in the surf club, of thick heavy sun block that leaves a white cast. However, my initial impressions were way off.  The cream rubs and absorbs into the skin fairly easily, with no white cast in sight. It does however leave a slight tacky finish, but not greasy at all, I find that this actually works well under makeup and creates a great base even slightly improving the longevity of wear. My face feels soft, hydrated and I feel confident that the SPF30 (UVA & UVB) fully protects my skin from our harsh Australian sun.

IMG_3959

Whitening Night Moisturiser

The rich moisturisers work to help revitalise the skin’s appearance by replenishing moisture lost throughout the day, while helping to reduce the appearance of dark spots and discolouration. For best results, use in combination with Elucent Whitening Exfoliating Cleanser and Elucent Whitening Day Moisturiser.

I really enjoy this night cream, and find that it is just nourishing enough for my oily skin without being too heavy. I don’t get on with anything too rich, but I still need something hydrating enough to keep my skin happy. This product definitely sits in that bracket. The formula looks and feels really thick at first, but once spread across the face, it sinks in effortlessly. I did notice brightening effects after prolonged use, but only a minimal difference in pigmentation. But with that being said, my skin is as pigmented as anything at the moment – a lovely side effect of pregnancy.

Overall, I think the quality of these products are fabulous – especially for the price. The active and nourishing ingredients shine through, giving users effective skincare products, targeting specific concerns without hurting the wallet.
