Brand Spotlight – Indeed Labs (REVIEW)

Hello lovely people,

I’m so sorry my blogging has been inconsistent, things have been crazy in my world. I was made redundant at work, and then I wasn’t… But now my role has changed fairly significantly. It has been a huge period of change, frustration and uncertainty, but hopefully I can get things back on track. I have been wanting to talk about Indeed Lab products for a while now because I have absolutely fallen in love.

IMG_7381 (2)

Indeed Labs produce science-based skincare solutions that target specific problems. The brand is built upon the basis of high potency, high quality and customer demand. Indeed Labs has been around  for quite a while and I had always been intrigued by the eye-catching packaging. I  gave in a few years ago and purchased the cult product that took the cosmetics industry by storm – Nanoblur. As someone with pores so big you could take a swim in them, I was sold on the idea of skin blurring gel/primer concoction that hides those bad boys. After plenty of trial and error, I found the best way to use Nanoblur was to pat on my nose and cheeks after foundation. It would ball up if it was used prior. Unfortunately it was forgotten about and  found its way to the bottom of my misc. skincare drawer. It wasn’t until I discovered some other Indeed Labs products that this little baby saw the light again. I soon emptied the tube and it is on my list to re-purchase

I have oily skin and have always struggled with moisturisers that are too thick and creamy. They always leave my skin feeling greasy and dirty. I was always under the impression that oily skin didn’t require as much hydration as other skin types and but continued to use them, regardless of how they made my face feel. And then I stumbled across the Hydraluron range. HA is the latest buzz in the beauty industry and there’s good reason for it. Hyrdraluronic Acid secures moisture and encourages skin plumpness and firmness. It is also is able to penetrate the top layer of skin better than most topical treatments, this boosts the benefits and absorption of the skincare products. (Tick, tick and tick). So onto the products…

Hyrdaluron Serum

This little tube of goodness is amazing. It is a serum that is used a hydration booster, used before your moisturiser. The Indeed Labs website states – “The ultimate serum that starts where your moisturiser stops. Proven to boost moisture levels in your skin daily, it contains the purest form of hyaluronic acid – an incredibly hydrating ingredient that holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water – as well as red marine algae – which mildly stimulates blood circulation – to provide maximum delivery of moisture beneath the skin’s surface.” Sounds amazing, right? Well it is. My skin feels instantly smoother, hydrated and soft. There is no excess moisture, and I am not left with a greasy feeling. I am in love. I use this twice a day a really notice the difference.

Hyrdaluron Moisture Jelly

”Hydraluron™ moisture jelly uses a combination of 5 scientifically proven ingredients to provide instant and sustained moisture benefits to the skin’s surface. Suspended in a hyaluronic acid matrix, this refreshing jelly features PatcH20™ – a micro network moisture complex which saturates the skin with fast-absorbing ingredients and helps to form a protective layer to defend against moisture evaporation. With each use, skin feels softer, more supple and glowing. Pair with hydraluron™ moisture boosting serum for optimal results.” This unusual gel has replaced my normal moisturiser. The gel formula feels lovely and light, but the results are heavy-duty. My skin is plump, soft and glowing. I do find that the Moisture Jelly does take a little bit longer to sink in, but that is the only downside  The combination of the serum and gel is absolutely amazing – It has blown me away.  I adore these products. I recently went away for the weekend and only took samples sized products, I noticed the moisture lacking in my skin straight away – I was looking forward to getting home and slathering this all over my face. Indeed Labs also have a Hydraluron Sheet Mask which I am eager to get my grubbly little mitts on.

I have a few other Indeed Labs products that I have used a few times, but haven’t had a good enough trial to able to report back. But these two Hydraluron products are winners.

Have you used these? Do you love them as much I as do?

My Skin Story // Clarisonic First Impression

I have a love-hate relationship with my skin. More hate than anything… For as long as I can remember I’ve struggled with blackheads, huge pores, and little bumps under the skin. I get the odd whitehead and hormonal pimples, but it seems no matter what I do, nothing gets rid of the blackheads and bumps. As you can imagine this has frustrated me for years. I have typically oily skin, no dryness or sensitivity.

IMG_7472 (2)
Sure, it may look pretty good with makeup on, but it is never flawless. Look at me in a particular light and you see that my pores resemble swimming pools, there’s a constant oil spillage on my t-zone and little bumps everrrrrywhere. I stare lustfully, possibly very creepily, at people with perfectly smooth skin and wonder why I have been cursed with this awful (mostly superficial) affliction haha. I want a highlight that shines from out of space, but unfortunately the more highlight I wear, the more you can see those little lumpy spawns of satan. I want make up to last all day, but no, it is forever melting off my face and requiring touch ups that barely do anything. The more I’ve dove into the world of makeup and cosmetics, the better understanding I have about skincare making all the difference in the way makeup works and looks. However so far I haven’t found anything that helps. My bathroom cabinet is overflowing with toners and tonics, serums, spot treatments, scrubs and chemical exfoliators, you name it! Sometimes I notice a difference and some results, but nothing that lasts or gives me that skin that I’d trade my first-born for.
Maybe it’s not the products to blame but the tools. Maybe my grubby little mitts aren’t the best tools to use to cleanse and apply products. I’ve heard so much about the Clarisonic, but never really thought much about it. I’d pick up the box and briefly read what they had to say, put the box back down thinking that maybe it is just an expensive gimmick. But surely all these beauty gurus/bloggers/ladies with angelic skin can’t be wrong, right?
I was lucky enough to attend a Clarisonic event this past week and was able to learn the ins and outs of skin types, how to best look after it and what the Clarisonic can do for me. Hallelujah!

IMG_7373 (2)
The Clarisonic is a one of a kind skincare tool, that is often imitated but never replicated. Their claim to glory is the way the brush moves. It uses ocillation sonic technology, that uses a cradle rock instead of spinning. This allows a gentle, yet powerful clean of the skin and pores. With over 300 movements per second (!!) all gunk, dirt and oil are loosened and removed from the skin, preventing irritation and the cause of blemishes. This act of deep cleansing also primes the skin for better absorption of skincare products. It is reported that with use of the Clarisonic, skincare is absorbed up to 61% greater than the normal rate. So, your expensive miracle serum will perform even better than normal? What is this sorcery?!

IMG_7473 (2)
So how does it measure up? First of all, you need to charge this bad boy for 24 hours straight to get the most out of your battery. This was torture. All I wanted to do was rub this all over my face ASAP but I couldn’t. Instead as I impatiently waited, I actually dreamt about glowy angelic skin. Excited much? Haha. When the magical moment arrived, I nearly wet myself with excitement! Lucky for me I was already in the shower – haha. I thought I would try something experimental for the first time to cure my scepticism. I would remove my makeup and wash my skin like normal, then try out this little baby to see if my regular routine removed my heavy duty makeup. I used the normal brush which wasn’t too harsh but dense enough for me to feel like it was doing something. This clever little pink machine also beeps to tell me when it’s time to wash a different part of my face. I used my regular Skinstitut cleanser and it lathered up like a charm. And would you believe that after I washed my face and looked at the brush, it was slightly tinted with foundation – even after a cleansing oil and quick wash! No wonder I get blackheads, I was cleansing my face without actually removing all the product. Yuck.  The brush is soft and gentle but provides such a superior clean. I would recommend a cashmere brush or delicate brush for those with sensitive or dry skin. You can use the Clarisonic with basically any type of cleanser, except for thick oily balms. I also wouldn’t recommend using scrubs or exfoliators, as I think it would be just a bit too abrasive.  I have used the device a handful of times now and I am really happy with the state of my skin so far.

IMG_7372 (2)
My skin feels so much cleaner, softer and somehow glowy, but it will be a matter of time to see if my lumps and bumps are reduced. I was told that I should see the best results around the 8 week mark. I’m skeptical but really hopeful. I’ll keep you updated with my progress via the blog and IG. Stay tuned, petals.

Maslow & Co. Beauty subscription.

To be brutally honest, I haven’t been impressed with Australian beauty box subscriptions so far. I have subscribed in the past to quite a few, hoping that the next one would be better. But I am always left disappointed. The products are constantly repeated, many samples were only sachets, the customer service was poor and the selection of products wasn’t well thought out. I was wanting full size or deluxe samples from high quality brands that aren’t easy to access or well known in Australia. I was wanting good customer service not constant postage delays. Maybe I’m being too picky?

IMG_7341 (2)

Enter Maslow & Co. (Cue applause). Maslow & Co is based in Western Australia and has only been up and running since December. This particular beauty box is a bi-monthly service that is curated with thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Each edit represents a country, allowing you to discover new products from all over the world – The Beauty Passport, if you will. Maslow & Co. boasts high quality products in very generous sizes, which ticks all my boxes. Let’s dive into this edits particulars.

The current box is a two-part series of the USA. The current box has encapsulated the West Coast. “LA, California and beyond. Mesmerised by the relaxed glamour of old Hollywood and inspired by the innovative beauty brands making industry heat waves. We opt for the scenic route as we road trip through the City of Angles”

ReverieMilk Antri Frizz Leave In Nourishing Treatment

I have never heard of Reverie before, but I am impressed. This lightweight cream smells incredible. It is bursting with essential oils and instantly relaxes me. This little guy is spread through clean damp hair for hydration and health. I only just used this after my shower and I can already tell it is going to be a new favourite. My hair feels soft and healthy and smells oh-so good.

Marula – Foaming Cleansing Oil

This is another brand that I have no experience with. The product name alone intrigues me – A foaming cleaning oil? Sounds ideal for my oily skin. This guy is meant to hydrate and clean the skin while softly exfoliating and removing dead skin and unclogging pores. AHA’s are used to brighten and clear the complexion. I haven’t had the chance to try the cleanser yet, but I cannot wait to crack it open and slather it on my face. I feel like it is going to be a winner.

Earth’s Nectar Mint Leaves Scalp Oil

Scalp oil? Another beauty product that I never knew I needed. This oil promotes hair health, hyrdration and shine, all the while aiding growth. Once again this product is full of essential oils ans botanicals making it smell insane. As the names suggests this hair treatment is full of refreshing and invigorating peppermint oil. While I haven’t used this yet, I am really looking forward to my hair looking super shiny and smelling minty fresh.

Fig & Yarrow – White Clay Mask

Another new brand for me and so far I am loving what they do. Fig & Yarrow create small batches of hand crafted artesian treasures and believe in the power of natural and pure ingredients.  This particular mask is suited for dry to sensitive skin. This isn’t my skin type but I’m loving it nonetheless. I really adore that you can mix the mask with any liquid of choice to create your own personalised treatment. I currently have this on my face and it feels and smells beautiful – I mixed the clay with cool green tea (as recommended) and I am loving the effect.

Fig and Yarrow – Complexion Water

Once again this product smells amazing. Used as a toner the Complexion Water promotes health, healing and hydration.  The bottle sprays a very fine mist and it is absorbed instantly. My skin feels fresh and clean. Not only is this toner great for the skin it also provides aromatherapy benefits.

Milani Baked Blush in Coralina

I am sure this brand and blush need no introduction. These little compacts of baked goodness are favourites of many beauty aficionados. These blushes are full of colour and blend out on the cheeks seamlessly. Milani is known to create high quality products for reasonable prices. I already had three Milani blushes (I am a huge fan) and lucky for me I didn’t have Coralina. This shade is the perfect fresh coral for Spring and Summer looks, it has a slight shimmer which gives off a beautiful healthy glow.

Overall, I am obsessed with this edit. The products are high-quality and full of lovely ingredients. This beauty box subscription is gaining hype within the beauty world and as you can see, there is good reason for it.  The next installment represents the East Coast of America and will be available to purchase until the 31st of July (Not much time left) For a little added bonus use the code ‘BENDER’ with purchase and receive a free Pixi Glow Tonic. I have been dying to trial this cult status product for so long! But it was never readily available in Australia, but now Maslow & Co. have changed that.

Booki Brow Co. – Embrowment

What makes you feel confident? Do you have a favourite outfit? Lip colour? Or do you love wearing a full face of makeup? I definitely know that there are quite a few things in my life that empower me and make me feel strong and confident within myself. I would even go as far as saying that sometimes I get this Girlboss feeling and think I can do absolutely anything.  One of the things that allows me to feel on top of the world is perfect brows. It may sound silly and trivial, but bear with me.  I was a little bit late on the ‘brows on fleek’ bandwagon. I was puzzled about how a tint or wax could completely change the way you look. But after I started taking notice and finally bit the bullet and allowed a brow specialist to have their way with me, I was converted. There is nothing that makes me feel as good as groomed brows.  On make-up free days, I still admittedly, give my brows a bit of a brush through a little bit of filling in. I am passionate about building up women, instead of tearing them down. Everyone deserves an outlet to which they can express themselves and feel confident enough to conquer their world.

This is why the newly released Booki Brow Co‘s message really resonated with me. Let’s rewind a minute and let me introduce you to their revolutionary movement. Booki Brow Co. have created the concept of Embrowment(#embrowment). Brooke, the founder, believes that strong brows can empower a woman. It is her pursuit to help women turn their brow-confidence into self-confidence.  Brooke has spent 12 years in the brow industry listening to her clients needs and wants. Brooke has tested different formulas and has been able to design a luxury brow range that is affordable, easy to use and allows you to achieve great results everyday. Not only are the products and tools of the highest quality, they really drive home this incredibly positive message of self-worth; Which I think is an absolute game-changer.

To celebrate the launch of Booki Brow you can win a 18ct Gold Eyebrow Brush. How boss is that?!

The rules are: Create an image with one of Booki Brow’s products as a flat-lay or image of your eyebrows to show how Booki Brow can empower you to take on the world. Upload it to Instagram and tag @bookibrow and #embrowment.

Until next time,

Brand Spotlight – Touch in Sol

Hi lovely people,

I have always been interested in Korean cosmetics. The packaging is always colourful and adorable, plus the products are all really innovative and inventive. Needless to say, I was pretty excited when Priceline started stocking Touch In Sol late last year. My first encounter with Touch In Sol was when I travelled to Hawaii and bought the ‘Beauty Superstars’ sample box from Sephora. It contained the Stretchex Stretch Lash Effect mascara and boy, did I love it – It made my lashes long, curled and defined. My lashes looked like they could fly me away. Unfortunately Priceline doesn’t currently stock all of the colour cosmetics (no more butterfly lashes for me), it does however carry a huge range of primers, BB creams and other lovely products to slather all over yo’ face.

I am a little picky with primers. I dislike anything overly slippery, thick or slimy and I like something that plumps the skin and disguises pores. I need something that prevents my skin from getting oily but also isn’t too matte as well.  Touch In Sol do primers well, they tick all the boxes plus more. The Dark Out primers are lovely and are right on the colour correcting trend. There are three different colours – green for redness, purple to correct yellow and sallow tones and the peach version brightens and corrects gray tones. These primers are creamy, but not too thick, hydrating and the formula spreads out nicely. They disguise imperfections and leave the skin smooth and ready for foundation. These bad boys are on constant rotation and are much-loved items in my stash.

I have to mention the No Poreblem Primer because it is insanely good. It leaves the skin so soft, smooth and silky. My pores are immediately banished and ready for foundation. This primer makes my base sit seamlessly and prevents any oil breaking through throughout the day. Although No Poreblem is a silicone based primer it doesn’t leave behind a slippery film or greasy feeling that a lot of other similar primers do. I must give an honorable mention to I’m Very Useful Make-up Boomer primer, it illuminates so beautifully and leave such a lovely natural glow.

I was instantly intrigued by the Flawless Skin Top Coat. The idea sounded interesting and innovative. This magical product claims to combine a primer, BB cream, foundation and face powder all in one.It can be used alone, under or on-top of foundations. I have played around with this quite a bit and have found it works best for me when worn alone. The coverage, longevity and finish are already amazing on its own.  The packaging is beautiful and the product is delivered through an eye-dropper, therefore is quite thin.  It spreads, builds up and blends so effortlessly, covers all imperfections and evens skin tone, all while leaving the skin velvety soft with a soft powdery finish. Flawless Skin Top Coat lasts well, prevents oil and leaves skin looking healthy and airbrushed. The only downside is that it only comes in two shades.

I was lucky enough to receive the Corean CC-Cream but it unfortunately is way too light for me. But despite this I gave it a try while I was at home one day. The formula is creamy and spreads well. It left my skin really glowing with a light-medium coverage and seems to be a perfect ‘no make-up’ makeup. If only it wasn’t so light and didn’t leave me looking like a ghost. I believe that most Korean cosmetics don’t cater for medium to darker skin tones.

Another product that I have trialled is the Mission Complete Waterproof Sensitive Lip and Eye Makeup Cleanser(what a mouthful). First of all, I love the packaging. It is pretty cool looking and looks great in the bathroom.  Not only that, it actually works really well.  Its creamy and non-irritating and lifts off waterproof mascara and liquid lipsticks effortlessly. It can be used as a whole face makeup remover as well, but it does leave the skin a touch oily, so it is best to use cleanser afterwards as well.

Overall this is a great brand and really good introduction to Korean cosmetics. Touch In Sol create high quality cosmetics that deliver on their promises. In my opinion the primers are the standout of the current Touch In Sol line available. Hopefully one day soon Priceline will release more of the colour cosmetic range and my eyelashes will be back to being  beautiful butterflies.

Touch In Sol is sold exclusively in Priceline. Have you used any of their products? Can you recommend any other Korean cosmetic brands?
